In their infinite wisdom, and the fact that they failed miserably to force riders to wear florescent jackets, bibs, or armbands, they are now introducing the carrying of a fluorescent bib on your bike " in case of breakdown.....
However, if they stop you, and I've not been stopped in 13 years, its a 14 euro fine, so no big deal....if you're touring, I guess you could hide one somewhere in your luggage, or on your bike, just in case, but personally, I, or my French friends won't bother...it'll go the same way as the breathalyser farce....plod has too much on his plate to work about a foreign biker carrying a hi-vis........just thought I'd let you know though.... The way I read your OP is "must wear bib by law" and "must carry bib by law in the event of a breakdown".

edit: I assume Cansa interpreted the same or similar.

Nope, never said " must wear bib by law"....because it isn't..... I did say must carry a bib in case of breakdown.....

I'm not saying you did, I'm saying that is the way I interrupted your original post and possibly the way Cansa might have also hence his question.

You did write "the fact that they failed miserably to force riders to wear florescent jackets, bibs, or armbands", to me that just comes across as plod attempted to force riders to wear a hi-viz, so many didn't, plod failed, so now there's another attempt in a new form.

Anyway...

In cars, yes it has been the rule for ages.

The requirement for motorcycle riders to carry a hi viz came in this month.

As far as I am aware you must carry Hi-Vis jacket and it must be put on before you get off the bike, so If you get stopped by plod, do not get off the bike until you put on the jacket or let him come to you so you can show him the Jacket also you must wear reflective strips on the helmet, front, back and sides.

Not sure where you got that from.....if you read it, could you post it up .... For a start it's only for breakdowns, so why would you have have to put one on, if the copper pulls you before you get off the bike ? Most people if they bother to carry one would probably stow it under the seat, so how do you get at it to put it on without getting off the bike...doesn't make sense........sounds like someone has got hold of the wrong end of the stick....

i think the police ... all three types iirc.. will have their hands full with illegal immigrants/economic migrants and failed asylum seeker assaulting the local female population.

kinda puts havin to carry a hi viz vest in the shade really ..
or any other piddly pathetic little item for that matter Thumbs Up

Exactly....the fine for not carrying one is 14 euros, plod are not gonna be that interested, and as for a foreign rider, even less so !! As I said in post one, it'll proberly go the same way as the breathalyser.....

Probably better for the Gendarmes for the illegal sexual assaulter to wear the hi viz.

Then he will be more visible for plod to ignore, so they can concentrate on fleecing the foreign bikers for 14 euros.

No on the spot fines for sexual misconduct so no point frog marching (no pun intended) the migrant to a cash point but unsuspecting credit card carrying tourist, it could be you Smile

I heard that if we leave the EU there are plans underway for all UK motorcyclists to be shot on sight in France.

True, I've applied for the job.......however, I've a cunning plan, I'll wait till said biker stops, then hijack his bike instead, and let him go free, it's a win win, he's happy he's not shot, and I get a bike collection, for free...............unless it's a Harley, they'll be shot on site, and bike burnt........seems fair... You forgot the bit about, if you break down and don't have a hi vis, the penalty is 135 euros, not the 14 if you just get spot checked.

Why would you not carry a hi vis?
