I'm looking at getting a midrange/big twin but not sure what to aim towards.

I was thinking the sv650 but not sure if the step up from the bros would be minimal.

Are there any other twins that have a large tank, sporty intentions, comfortable and good in town?

Cheers Thumbs Up

I must say I found the inline four to be quite a boring sort of ride which pissed me off because I really wanted a CBR6

have you tried something else like an r6?
the last time i rode a cbr6 i found it quite boring as well... Razz

other than that could try sometihng like the vtr1000 firstorm - they look nice and sound good and not as focused as the sp's? and better than the tl's etc

depends on how you ride (it's a smaller tank 18l i think)...
i've got an sp2 at the mo and yes it does drink but depends on what you use your bike for - i can can be fairly quick without having to give it too much stick ..

The TRX 850 is a much underrated bike and they go for peanuts second hand. Smart trellis chassis and setup to sound like a Ducati.

Have you noticed, it doesn't matter what you ask for someone will always recommend an R6, that's because R6 owners think we all want one. I've ridden an R6 it was an awful thing, certainly not something I'd have any fun on, it was actually painful to ride through town.

Then again I prefer twins to in-line fours, can't put my finger on it but a twin just seems to suit my riding, also I'm not interested in getting my knee down on the way to work, in general pointed bikes do nothing for me at all.

I would definately recommend a Ducati Monster, performace will depend on which one you choose but they are comfortable, great around town and good fun on the country lanes (no fun on the motorway), the fuel tank isn't huge though.

Lol, an R6?? Why didn't I think of that Rolling Eyes .

SV1000 seems like a good option since I don't like fairings too much (bit nancy if you ask me Razz ).
Anyone know what the mpg is like and how big the tank is? Also I'm a bit scarred of the idea of a litre bike for me and my insurance (1NCB age 20)

Thanks for all the quick replies Thumbs Up

Insurance cost me for a TL1000R with 1yrs NCB at 18 £850 TPFT in a group A postcode so it should be a couple of hundred less than that.

After riding the TL (for what little riding I managed to do when it wasn't in shop being fixed Rolling Eyes ) I'm not interested in getting another big V-twin, sports 600 is far nicer on the roads to use, as well as costsing less in petrol, insurance, road tax and the torquey nature of them means they'll go through consumables quicker than inline fours. I'm not going to suggest an R6 even through they are nice bikes IMO, some people don't like them for road riding as they do put a lot of weigh on your wrists.

The SV1000 is a far nicer bike than the TL, certainly from a handling viewpoint.

With regard to twins I think it's the torque I like, whether the bike goes through consumables depends on how you ride I guess.

He does say "What twin?", so I guess he's already dismissed 600cc in-line 4 sports bike route. After all they are a bit like clitorises.

What about an R6? Have you considered and R6?

Do twins go through chains, sprockets, wheels as quickly as they say? I would have thought the money spent on tyres with a sports600 would equal the chain/sprockets on a twin.

Isn't there less to go wrong with a twin as well? Less balancing and stuff like that.

Not that I've noticed, I guess some things will suffer due to higher torque but other things will last longer due to lower revs, it's down to what you want and how you ride.

My monster has about 6000 miles on it (not much I agree) but the chain & sprockets are like new, I reckon how you ride will have more effect than the engine.

Twins - allthough i hate to say it overall are no more powerfull lower down the rev range than a four, not significantly anyway..

If your gonna get a 1000cc twin got to be the TL.... Twisted Evil

Totally not about the power. Its mainly about the "v-twin soul beat". Chieffed off mt-01 promotion but very true.

Most (not all) sportsbike riders seem to have a one track mind, max power, max power, nothing else could possibly matter.

I read a test in a mag recently where they tested three different cans on the same bike, in the end they raved about the one with the hignest peak power. But looking at the graphs the can with the highest peak power (by 3bhp) was clearly down throughout most of the rev range by as much as 10bhp this wasn't mentioned, it was obvious that only the numbers mattered, its bollocks.
