Hey again dudes,

My second motorcycle is a GSXR400. I haven't done a single thing on this yet. I've had to store it at my dad's due to the lack of space at home (where my workshop is). I only bought this for £500 (absolute bargain) and there is barely anything wrong with the bike. It needs some work on the rear quarter panel and a few wear and tear scratches on the rest of the fairing. The forks need re-chroming which is the expensive job, but I think I might upgrade the springs in the forks so Ill have them apart which makes it a tad cheaper when I send them off. The carbs also need a good clean out as it had been stood for roughly 8 years, also has shocking tyres, discs and pads. But im thinking of a full restoration besides the engine. The engine has run so I just need to clean that up.

Im just grabbing the photos so Ill upload those as soon as I can.

Hi,

Welcome to BCF. It might be worth posting these kind of threads over in Show and Tell:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewforum.php?f=50

(Show off your projects or share your epic biking tales here.)

rather than General Bike Chat.

I like GSXR 400's and theres a fair few of us here who have owned them/own them so we may be able to answer any questions you have.

body work is worse than looks in the picture, when I bought it a couple of years ago it had be stood for about 5 years, it ran but very badly, its now been stood for another 2 years.

Engine is sound, but will tidy it up and do valve clearances. Strip & rebuild carbs. New bearings & bushes on the swing arm & suspension. Fork strip & service. Damn good clean up, fresh paint.

That sounds very similar to mine to be honest. The paint looks better in the photos for me as well, but really its faded and scratched to hell. You'll have to keep me updated with yours when you start it man, that will be pretty awesome when finished. It looks gorgeous as it is if im honest.

Isn't that just the shock, subframe, tail piece, rear light and tank/belly pan graphics?

I've got an RRSP subframe with lights somewhere here if anybody wants to make me an offer for it.

Forks and gearbox, are different as well. Forks have rebound adjustment that the standard doesn't have, and it also has a close ratio gearbox.

Not sure about the carbs, I think they are different but I not 100% sure about that, maybe just the jets.

Carbs are 1mm bigger and air box is longer so inlet tracts don't have the alloy spacers.

Best gains are made by fitting flat slide carbs and fitting a decent pipe, but my pockets aren't deep enough yet, I would expect 70 odd BHP easy by doing this.

How much are flat slide carbs, and what carbs would fit the GSXR 400? Somebody has previously mentioned it at work but I didn't really look into it or anything because I had the VFR 400 on my mind at the time.

Keihn TM / TMR32 are favourite, expensive and usually found for sale on Yahoo Japan auctions. You can probably buy them in the UK new but they would be 1000 quid and need racking to suit a 400.

Yoshimura have done two pipes, a quiet one and a full race system, both are better than stock. Yahoo japan again.
