Photoshops?

I'm needing to create an image, specifically a few words with a border/outline.

I've got by the last 10 years using GIMP Laughing

for the minimal editing I had to do, but that doesn't have such fancy features.

What's out there ideally freebie that could let me experiment with graphics?

Photoshop tends to give you a full 30 days free trial on an un-registered (with them previously) email address. Usually more than long enough to decide if you like it, then buy *cough*pirate*cough* it.

Gimp will do what you want, perhaps not as user-friendly as other apps but if you're used to using it you should run a few tutorials and you'll soon have what you want. I made the logo for my website using Gimp.

PSP was a good alternative but you quickly realise it can't do a lot of things like PS can, much link GIMP.

I remember using PSP for a couple of months, infact it was what got me in to design and then I started on Photoshop in 1994/95 and it still remains one of the best, however...

Affinity Photo is better than PS. The problem with PS now is, they haven't re-written it from scratch since it came out. Just releasing new features, etc.

AP has been made from the ground up and it really shows if you manage to get a copy and try it out.
