All I seem to read is grumbles - so here's another one!
PLEASE STOP GRUMBLING!
I ride for the fun of it. Sure there are lots of other people on the road with many different levels of skill, different vehicle types and differing needs. But there is enough room for us all if we are tolerant, considerate - and keep our eyes open for the intolerant and inconsiderate ones that may constitute a threat to ourselves.
Please enjoy your riding & tell us about the harmless fun you have had. I think it will make for better reading threads!
I was really looking forward to reading the Born Again Bikers bit, expecting to hear from some other old gits like meself who can't prevent themselves growing older - but refuse to grow up! here's a chance to add a happy thread! ____________________ Born again Bikers can do it again, & again, & again! |

Well said, I couldn't agree more.
Of the many posts on here 2 that really stick in my mind are Goose and Somerset's tales of exploration on 'peds. Great stories of derring do and great fun to read.
We need more like it. ____________________ BCF: Be yourself, just don't be an arse. |

There is usually a bit of a seasonal bent to the topics, in the depths of winter the forum tends to veer towards the narky.
Now we're on the cusp of spring and things are lightening up a bit, but I reckon it'll be into March before the happy posts start outweighing the moaning.
Completely agree though about the 'tales of harmless fun'. In fact I've found myself hammering the search when stuck in the office on a cold, dark afternoon - reading old trackday reports or tales of epic ped missions doesn't half cheer you up. |

Hey, I just like trying to argue my point....
I'm having fun, I enjoy having a bike, riding a bike and meeting like minded folk like myself. Everyone get pissed off with the law or road rage at sometime, just doesn't mean we're always angry all the time....
Look, I'm smiling ! ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

To be honest mate, it seems more people spend time on here than on their bikes itself. I know if I wasn't on a moped i'd be out in the sunshine right now.
Don't worry people in the summer there will be double the amount of exploration posts from me. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Happy bike thought for me was yesterday after work. Finished an hour early cos the sun was shining. Straight home and straight on the bike. The roads were dry, the salt seemed to have dissappeared and my hands were freezing. Managed a good unseasonal thrash (after taking it soooooo easy all winter), over backroads, a couple of trips round a freshly surfaced roundabout (quiet too). Stopped for petrol and left my gloves on the exhaust to warm up. Home, into the house shivering with the cold, with a smile from ear to ear. Chuffed!
Roll on summer!

I hate the coming in from the cold and that itchy/sore feeling you get on the insides of your fingers that you can do nothing about!! Ouch and ARGH all at the same time.
Fear not, warmer weather is not too far away. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

cant really make a happy post about riding at the mo due to it being minus 1 when i ride to work in the morning
get to work after only 5 miles and cant feel my hands
went for a rideout last weekend to the cat and fiddle and then to buxton and had to ride most of it through fog
and then a young lad who we were with crashed at 70mph and nearly died
still poor weather at the moment so its not fun to be riding in my opinion |

Fog is probably the hardest weather I've had to ride in TBH. Not nice, steams your visor up but open the visor and your face is numb and wet in minutes! Can't win.... ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

|
| Quote: | well im a happy biker ,you can see the flies on me teeth |
Now there's a phrase from my youth!
Anyway, here's a short tale from a trip to Cyprus.
I had 2 weeks training to deliver one February with a lonely weekend in the middle. Discovered I could hire a Honda 400 tourer for the weekend - Problem solved! It may be Feb in Cyprus but the orange trees are carrying fruit and the temp is around 12-15C. It's like a warm UK May. So I decide to do a trip round the Island.
Problem 1) I am in the Greek bit and can't take the bike over the Green line into the North of the Island.
So I buys a map & there is a little tiny road over the mountains looks superb & I can't wait. Friday comes, I collect bike & head for the hills. The tarmac peters out pretty quickly and all habitation & then vegetation disappears. I am riding loose 1-2" gravel & rocks on an old road bike, with my helmet tied to the bars (they don't really enforce the law that much there) Slippin' & Sliddin like a goodun & wondering where the track is leading when I come across a small shack.
Immediately, up pops an armed soldier waving his gun. I decide to stop, only to get a short 3rd degree about where I am from, who I am & where I am going & why. It seems my little track had taken me over the Green Line into "enemy territory" & they thought I was smuggling something. Any way a quiet smile, few jokes & we were the best of friends, it seems they don't get many visitors in their neck of the woods (could it be something to do with their initial approach?) so they were glad of a bit of company.
Later that day, when I had got as far south a Aphrodite's well, near Paphos, I noticed I had a headache. It turned out that riding bare headed meant that my hair had blown back revealing a large pink bit of scalp that had since gone very red with sun & wind burn! When I put my helmet on for a short main road blast later, it rubbed the burnt skin off & stuck to my head! So perhaps riding without a helmet isn't always the most enjoyable way to travel! ____________________ Born again Bikers can do it again, & again, & again! |

I'm happy, finally got to introduce the gixxer to some dry roads today. Was definately a good confidence building exercise. Found bike to be very 'flickable'.
Now it would just be nice to repeat the exercise without getting frostbite in my toes! ____________________ Suzuki RF 600 - The two wheeled Testarossa (Deceased)
