my Motobatt has been on my CBR for a few months now, I put it onto my oximiser every night when I put it in the garage. When we had to drop the engine out the battery was left for a week completely disconnected, on a counter in the garage. When we went to crank the bike over the next week it was flat, the starter just turned, had to jump it.

It was a genuine motobatt from Buster's, next time I'll get a Yuasa or a Bosch AGM, they work and cost less money Thumbs Up

My motobatt has been on two years. Every time I connect up the optimate I get a fully charged notification, regardless of how long it's been stood. I don't bother with the optimate nowadays.

My Motobatt on the zx7 has never seen a charger and it had been sitting for a month.

Started it the other day to move it. Fired up with no issues. Battery sounded as strong as the day i put it on.

Not everyone will read the whole thread - edit just the first post, summarise the findings, retract the statements about Motobatt, and apologise for not listening.

In other news, I started the Savage for the first time in 2 months, left in the cold, would have bet my left nut it would be completely flat, started on the button once the fuel was through. Another Thumbs Up for Motobatt.

bought another motobatt in 2013 now its failed again.

wasn't happy with the lifetime of the previous one which was under 3 years....closer to two.

I don't think that these batteries match the hype in the marketing material.

I have a smartphone application that monitors the voltage only and its sitting at around 13.8 volts while riding but without load on it like grips etc. charging fluctuates from around 13.6 to 14.2 as you'd expect because of the on off of the mosfet regulator.

Still ... this motobatt doesn't seem to hold a charge at the moment...strangely 2 years of service again.

just sayin' Sad

Reasonable life? Not when a Yuasa will do 8 if used regularly, my ZX10R battery lasted 12!

Also, how has the battery been used? Reasonable run daily rider, couple of miles a day not really recharging fully or put away at the start of October, no maintenance charge, and now it's dead?

Daily ride. 365 days a year.

headlights on a switch so I don't have to run them all the time.

regulator upgrade from bike's original

gets a run over the westgate bridge into the city most days, but that varies on whether I'm working in the city.

Well that's up to the motobatt website. I imagine they know their business and when I type in my make model and year that they suggest the correct battery.

I thought it odd that the casing is small and needs a platform underneath to raise it to the height of the strap, yet the next one up is too big.

I guess the plastic platform is 15mm high but I cannot recall.

I would have thought it a better idea to make the battery the same size as the original Yuasa supplied rather than reducing the size.

the motobatt site says that they have more lead in them but if that leads to only 2 years, perhaps reducing the size of the battery from stock is not wise.

Anyway mine have both been short lived if you call 2 years as short, I certainly do.

I'd expect about 5 years or more but certainly no less. I gave them a second chance... but not keen on a third as it is my primary transport.

Hi

I too have had a similar lifespan on a motobatt batteries, which was a little frustrating, gone back to cheap acid batteries now, as they last longer, but I do miss not worrying about the battery potentially leaking !

2 years would be piss poor for the cheapest wet cell Whang Dong budget battery, let alone a "premium" product.

You've just provided a significant reason not to buy one.

I happen to have 3 motobatt batteries for my bikes about 2.5 years old each, apart from 1 failing due to electrical issues I've had no issues. Yet.

That said, I'll think I'll go with a different brand in future if 2 years is considered reasonable from a battery.

I would expect more from one in use on a machine with a working charging system.

The problem isn't so much what a battery costs, as the PITA factor when it fails.

You don't know enough about batteries and charging systems to spec your own battery. Yet you decide to dick around changing the regulator for a non-standard one?

Ever thought that may be your issue?

I'd call a 33% failure rate an issue.

I came in with an open mind, I even gave the original OP a shoeing, but all I'm seeing now is reasons to avoid them. Sad times. Sad

It seems the quality of Motobatt is inconsistent as some people get on fine with them, others complain they don't last. That could be down to poor maintainence but I suspect build quality and quality of the materials used which could make buying Motobatt a bit of a gamble.

I suspect it's more down to whether or not it was charged before you use it or not.
