I may be missing something but what's stopping the whole thing collapsing under it's own weight? Is there a single tube running under the tank, and that's ... it?

Looks like he has sawn the down-tube off and stuck a spearhead up the hole.

And if he'd left it alone, the GP100 might even have been worth the £800 starting bid Rolling Eyes

While I dont like it, I fail to see why it's so wrong for mad cap freaks with limited skills to knock up shoddy lash ups out of two old near worthless bikes?

Sure the GP is a nice little classic 100 smoker, like the YB and H100's are, but they ain't worth very much still even in mint condition. He might have used two old non running incomplete bikes to make this thing, so he probably didn't ruin any nice useable classics which is the usual argument against this sort of thing.

For every one person who goes to the time and hassle of knocking up some odd ball contraption from old bikes, there probably 100's that only want new bikes, because it's fashionable and material to own nice new shiny things.

And there's probably 100's of people that would want to restore an old bike to 100% correct and original.

So what this guy is doing apart from pleasing himself isn't really hurting anyone or going to affect the classic bike market.

It's a similar thing with the hipster phenomenon. I mean I don't agree with buying decent running 70's/80's bike's to rip them apart and put plank seats, leather grips and exhaust wrap on,
But the ones that start with non running screen scrap or incomplete bikes, are saving machines from crumbling into the soil, and without these people things like old Z250's, XS400's, etc, wouldn't be loved enough for anyone to restore, as they weren't cool in their day and most people wouldn't look at them 30years later either.

Conversely, I do quite like it, but I believe what he's done is turned two bikes into one non-bike.

He's literally destroyed the GP100 by chopping the frame up. Quite apart from the exhaust, electrics and fuel cap issues, I'd say that's pretty much the definition of 6.1 Condition of Structure - any deliberate modification which significantly reduces the original strength.

I can't see anyone putting their name on the ticket for that accident-in-potentia.

Yeah definite weak point where the top tube meets the thinner horizontal tubes.

I don't think the derision in this thread is based on that.
Not only does it look like he's cut out a necessary part of the frame, but his add is also inconsistent.
He's saying that he was joyfully riding this thing last summer. Further down the add he mentions that it needs the headlight wiring up, brake switches, registering and an MOT!
uwotm8 Laughing
It's an art project that he's now bored of and wants some mug to pay £800 for as a running bike. It is laughable.

Absolutely gutted for you mate, I knew I should have bought that GP100 off Paddy last year and saved it from this fate. Sad

Looks like some extra bracing has been added.

Or maybe not... but note the original frame doesn't continue underneath - presumably uses the engine as a stressed member.

As to the original assertion; I'm afraid that title has already been taken:

I actually thought the one under discussion was a hell of a lot less bad than a lot of others out there; that was until I saw the asking price!

In the original picture I didn't even notice the front down tube missing! Damn, I thought it looked... interesting at least. That second picture makes it look a bit... well imagine the frame flex as you ride it Shocked

Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder.
If that was entered into custom-concourse....?
You know, I COULD actually see it taking a rosette.
Would depend on what it was entered for, and the build-log, but?
I have seen worse in 'Youth-Build' for under 16's.. though there is a perversity in that class that the most shoddily executed can fare better than stuff that judges suspect are more 'Dad-Built' & merely Youth Entered'.
Lack of bracing around the engine, is obvious oversight it would be de-marked for, but it aught to have an MOT before entry, so that aught t have been picked up on & corrected; simple brace between down-tube & rocker cover may be all that was needed.
Otherwise? Chrome mudguards & lamp are incongruous to the 'veteran' theme where steel was generally painted & pinstriped.
Pull-back bars? Torpedo tank? Cycle Saddle? IF the build book was comprehensive enough; and contained 'outline' that explained it as a baked-bean build to strict budget, with good 'concept' over 'veteran' style, and enough detail on problems over-come; it might pick up enough marks for concept and execution to take a rosette.
There is some 'merit' in the thing.... cant say I like it, and certainly wouldn't pay money... let alone that sort of money for the thing, but it's a fair attempt.

But I may just be missing the Lexmoto Transformer that lived round the corner on my way to the Petrol-Station, until last month when they sold the bed-sits to a 'Developer'.

Fantastic device; it was a rather tatty Vixen a year ago; it's since been a retro-chop, with MX forks and sissy bar; a cafe racer, with upside down LC bars and ply-wood seat; a brat-chop with original forks and gaiters and I think Kawasaki KX80 wheels; It even morphed into an NS125 set of body-work at one point, with the round headlamp behind the square lamp-slot!? Very entertaining machine.. certainly entertaining for me, when I went to the petrol station, wondering what he'd done to it this week! Definitely entertaining to it's owner!

Teflon-Mike, that Lexmoto Transformer sounds a lot like the Chevette I owned at 17. the neighbours thought it hilarious and asked what I would do next to it. Long live Matt black Pound-land paint!
