Anyone used these before?

Been recently looking at one of these for doing some general maintenance to the bike but wondering if it will be stable enough. Seen loads of bikes in photos sitting on these but don't know if they are just good for presenting the bike upright or can the bike take a little bit of movement before it will fall off?

I've had a look at the bottom of my bike and it will be sitting on top of a sump guard which is not perfectly at a right angle to the ground so the bike will likely be sloping forwards albeit slightly. Will the rubber on top of the stand be grippy enough to stop it slipping off?

The swing arm on the bike does not have anywhere that can fit bobbins for a paddock stand and I have tried about 3 or 4 other ways to lift the bike up for doing the chain, but none of the methods seem to be stable enough to support the bike, so this seems like the last option.

A paddle type rear paddock stand would be a more useful option. Those stands are only for motocross or enduros, and even then can be sketchy at times......

I've got one for my DRZ, it's too tall in its lowest position to just slide under the bike and feels pretty unsteady when raised. Make sure you keep it greased or it won't work... All this depends on what bike you have though.

That'll be fine. Thumbs Up

It'll be stable enough for taking the wheels out, forks off, etc etc etc.

If you want more stability in your life then using ratchet straps you can hang the bike from the roof in your garage.

Cheaply built lift - £25 is the maximum I'd pay, but should about do the job.

Those one step stands are cheap for a reason.I have two and only paid £20 each for them up at the Dirt Bike Show years ago.
They elevate high enough to be able to get both wheels off the ground if you move them around a bit on the pad

They're crap. Too big to go underneath most bikes, can't lift much (iirc 160kg max). Mine wouldn't raise my XR125 (which I had to lift onto it) so it went back, apparently you need to fettle them to work.

Too big to go underneath most bikes? Well they're not meant to be used with most bikes. Laughing

Even for most of the bikes they are made for (Enduro/MX), they still require lifting on.

Yup, that's how they work. Razz

I was more meaning that they won't work with bikes that aren't enduro / mx bikes.

For your bike the screw type might be better

https://i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad293/fatterhatter/_57-47_zps3yftrso0.jpg

It involves no lifting and will fit any bike and weight, the other doesn't go low
enough and isn't adjustable , they cost about the same

Just a wee update for anyone who may be interested.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. Arrived the next day. 2 seconds to put together and does a fantastic job. I have never noticed (or paid any attention to) the bottom of the frame which has maybe a 3/4 inch bit of frame below the pegs, which is idea for sitting on the stand. If you sit the stand under them it lifts the back wheel off the ground and if you overhang them over the edge of the stand it lifts the front wheel.

Very happy with the product. I've tried rocking the bike to extremes but its not budging. You could easily jump on top of the bike while its on the stand and it wont budge.

The stand also takes 160KG, so I might try it later on my Honda Deauville and see if it works with that as well (my centre stand is broken on the Deauville).

The only drawback that i can see is that if you were to accidentally kick the lever at a certain angle, there is potential for it to lower unexpectedly. A simple pin would prevent this from happening - and in actual fact there is a hole in one part of the stand to allow this, but not in the other end of the stand for some weird reason; which would act as a fixed locked position. I might need to drill the other hole at some point (I can only think that it might be a manufacturing error, because I don't see why they would only have 1 hole instead of 2 to allow a pin/screw/bolt to fit through and lock it in place - however there was only 1 pin provided in the packaging and that connects the 2 bits of the handle so it fits nicely in the box.
