If done right, should get more cranking power and better life.
Some aren't, however.
Using a basic but high spec battery designed for radio controlled vehicles, I could jump start my van with a half kg battery (no container, charging circuits, etc).
My next bike battery however will be trying out ultra capacitors I reckon; one of these: https://www.maxwell.com/images/documents/datasheet_16v_small_cell_module.pdf . |

The other feature of a Li-Ion battery is, that they don't tend to lose the charge that quickly (if not in use) and the re-charging times (from the wall socket) are very, very short.
The downside of this technology is the price and the fact it is a Li-Ion battery (so as the time goes, the performance of the battery is degrading, BUT not that quick and even at 70% of performance, it'll be still enough to run your starter motor and lights of your motorcycle). Also, never let it drop to 10v and less, you're gonna harm the battery.
I was thinking of it, about 4 years ago and after considering the investment, I stayed with, back then, a classic wet battery. Now, reading this thread I'm thinking about it again. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

there is a protection/ low voltage circuit in them isn't there?
so if the voltage drops below a certain level they basically die, reason for this is with voltage drop they become unstable an tend to go pop
Lithium fires are bad m'kay |

Yays, LiPo's!
Over discharging and they will just become bricks.
Without much charge they don't do much tbh.
Have a regulator fry and start pumping 18+ volts into it though and you're going to get some very very very toasted buns!
They better darn have charge protection built into the battery in this day and age so upon that assumption, if it were priced reasonably enough I would certainly consider one... |

Shido or Shorai are two of better brands IMO. between a third and a fifth of the weight and better cold cranking. They lose charge fair more slowly when not being used. I'll be picking up a Shido at the end of the month as my lead acid in the R1 is dying. ____________________ My Flickr |
