Hi folks, this is my first time so go easy😉
I have bought a custom bobber made out of a lexmoto vixen 125 on an 07 plate. I will admit now that I know little to nothing about bikes mechanically but am a keen car fiddler and have happily maintained 3 Jags and a Mitsubishi.
My problem is this: the stock exhausts have been replaced with straight through pipes with no silencers and are obviously very loud. I get on pretty well with my neighbours and would like to avoid conflict.
Would a set of these that I found on eBay

Check out NEW Black Universal 'shorty' chopper pot silencers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391256638236 @eBay

make any difference or am I gonna have to go a bit further to achieve an acceptable volume? Would the carb need to be reset if I bought a pair of these and welded them on? Is that an easy job?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Regards,

Dom Very Happy

Ideally replace the straight through exhaust with a stock one.

Change the exhaust and you probably should change the jetting but that mostly depends on what the previous owner did with the jetting when butchering the rest of the bike.

I agree that for best running the best thing you can do is fit stock exhausts, airbox and carb settings. They run pretty expensive at cmpo.co.uk but you could give Learner Legal a call and see what they have in stock: https://www.learnerlegal.com/

If you're sticking with the straight pipes you could just bolt a couple of baffles in the end. Measure the pipes, eBay "XXmm baffle", buy a pair for about £15, cross fingers.

Whatever you do (including nothing), definitely check the fuelling. Googling for "PZ26 carb tuning" turns up some reasonable guides.

Thanks for the advice. I will take a look at the tuning info you linked to and the baffles. It may just be me being a bit paranoid and the fact it was running in the garage but it does seem very loud. The custom was done by an engineer who lived close to the previous owner and looks to me to be a pretty good job but as I've already said "what do I know"!?

thanks again.
