When needed do you go on a red light?

Yesterday in Ascot there was a road works temporary light.

I have waited 1 minute than have noticed there is a builder fiddling with the control box.

Apparently can not make it work.

I was the only one that have proceed on my way on red.

The traffic both ways was waiting. For Godot maybe?

Yes, proceed with caution (and check for po-po).

Often do it with temp lights, especially when there is no one there, only small drainworks where traffic lights aren't needed and there's enough room to fit two cars.

I've done it a handful of times when it's obvious that the road sensors haven't been able to detect my bike and there's been no other traffic coming along to trigger them (usually late at night).

I'll proceed cautiously and only if I've a good view.

Technically, you can't without breaking the law.

If, however, the lights are clearly borked and its safe to proceed, meh.....

On one of those fly on the wall police programmes they showed coppers waiting at night for cars to jump temporary traffic lights the cops knew were fucked.

They were laughing about it.

Some lights work on some kind of vehicle sensor that doesn't recognise bikes, not just the temporary ones either. There's a junction on Southbury Rd. Enfield leading to a Morrisons that often flat refuses to go green if I'm at the front of the queue.

I've had a TS10 in the past and I'll definitely have one again.

Coppers can be observed frequently driving through red lights, by the way. Red and amber does not mean go. You'd think they'd know that.

Mine comes off my licence in August.

Got caught in a bicycle bay turning right from the Embankment up towards Trafalgar Square.

I think I got away lightly, considering I was on Paddy's horrendously loud TL with insurance only covering me on it from a bike I'd just sold Laughing

In the dead of the night I sometimes get stuck at the traffic lights that are triggered by a traffic sensor (Heat, Motion or Inductance loop) and if it doesn't register me then I just proceed avec caution.

If you can see that it's clear to proceed, and you're going to proceed eventually, why stop in the first place?

What's the merit in obeying a pointless signal?

I've been caught once in 26 years, and that was by Traffic Plod staking out honeypot lights, as Polarbear noted above.

I'm probably over-due for another TS10, but I've certainly saved far more time over the years than I lost in getting one Tut Tut from Constable McTargets, and almost no kittens have died.

Quite a lot of NOx emissions from an Enfield, I'm just saying that I can't in good conscience rule it out.

If your talking a red light on a ring road late at night with no traffic around and your pretty sure of that and no ANPR, then hell yeah. Id do 50mph in a 30mph at 3am if its a quiet town or urban road too.

As for temp traffic lights at road works that should change but aren't doing so then again if its not busy and the road layout allows id either ride around them on the pavement so you don't need to go through them, or get off the bike and walk with it past them.

There's no rules for pedestrians going through red lights are there!

Getting from a main road into the residential streets that lead to my abode can be a royal pain. They have the sensors in the road, what mechanism to operate them, I know not.

I've been sat for 3 cycles of the lights once upon a time without allowing me to turn right ... So I just went after that point.

I do always stop though, despite knowing they may not change for me. I stop though to show that I am trying to obey the signals, to any Target Driven Observers, and after the full cycle has passed and still no change, I'll go.

I have the option of doing a U-turn after the traffic island ahead but I've never seen so much detritus than in that area so think better of it to save my tyres.

TL;DR : Yes I go through reds sometimes and would defend my decision to proceed despite the red wholeheartedly.

Yes, because London.

Have even been caught going through a red resulting in one of those 'it's your lucky day' speeches by angry policeman. It was.

I've done it a couple of times at bus lane lights where they haven't 'sensed' properly. Just proceed with caution and if pulled you have mitigating circumstances.

When i was on a 125, most of the right turn traffic lights didn't detect my bike, so i would get stranded. It was alright in the small hours as the roads were empty, but when they were just busy enough for there not to be a gap but nobkdh else wanted to turn rigjt where i was turning it was a bit of a ballache.

STING LYRICS
"Roxanne"

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
