ISIS released another video of him 2 days ago. The poor guy looks like he's aged 10 years since the last one. God knows what ISIS are doing to him. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3499795/British-ISIS-hostage-John-Cantlie-appears-new-propaganda-footage-inside-Mosul-one-year-video-appearance.html

Oldsters may remember him as 'Sonic', a well respected journo for Superbike, TWO and other bike mags. I met him once at the EMAP Kettering office - he seemed a fair-minded sensible bloke with his feet on the ground. He quit the bike press and became a war photographer but has spent much of his new career as a prisoner. Apparently he was tortured after an escape attempt. He must have come very close to being beheaded by Jihadi John https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2996604/Cantlie-punished-escape-bid.html

From 2012:

Quote:
Ah, the good old mid-90s days when riding bikes was about fun, crashing and chaos!

I did indeed get kidnapped and shot while trying to escape in Syria, which was fun. Currently purchasing new equipment and will be back on the frontline in October. And no, I've never been in the army.

So captured twice? jeez, stick to bikes mate, much safer!

4 years with them. He must have stones the size of basketballs to keep going. It's good to see him alive as it's been a while since they last released a video of him (even this one that's clearly being made under duress) and I feared him gone.

I remember Sonic from the bike mag days, didn't put the two together until now. When are we doing the mass ride out to save him?

The man is doing what he has to do to stay alive. I can admire that.

Poor bastard, I wouldn't wish being in their hands on my worst enemy.

Although I am probably being a bit hypocritical as I said in the past of those who chose to go there for whatever reason must know the risks they were taking.
