Carole Nash want people to give up a day to be a biker hero, essentially, doing courier jobs for free.

I can't see that people will be insured when on their policy it'll likely say 'excludes use as a courier'

If you are delivering stuff on a bike, you are a courier, I don't think 'biker hero' is a classification for a policy.

Two things have pissed me off. First, it's hard enough to get work as it is, then my insurer takes some of it away in their quest for promotion and that I pay about 3x the standard rate for courier insurance on my bikes and they are getting people on standard policies to do work I'm paying through the nose to cover myself for.

Quote:
Here at Carole Nash, we love giving back to the community. This April, to celebrate the beginning of the bike season, we’re launching the very first of our Hero Days^.
In everyday life, many people come across problems to face and little struggles to overcome. Perhaps someone has arrived at the airport and forgotten their passport, or they have an important meeting at work and they have left their papers at home.
We want to tackle these everyday struggles and offer a helping hand to the nation
- and this is where we need you!
We’re on the lookout for volunteers who wouldn’t mind giving up some of their time on our Hero Days^ to help those around them. For example, this may involve helping someone in your local area transport some important documents from A to B.
As a thank you, we’ll provide fuel costs of up to £50 and donate £50 to a charity of your choice.

How will it work?
On Hero Days, people in need of a helping hand will be encouraged to tweet to the Carole Nash @insidebikes account using a designated hashtag #Ineedabikerhero.
The Carole Nash team will monitor these requests and let our biking heroes know of anyone in need near them who it may be feasible to help. So, you will need to be near your phone on the day between the hours you have specified you will be available to help.
I want to be a Carole Nash Hero!^ How do I apply?
Get in touch by emailing bikerheroes@carolenash.com with your name, contact details, local area/city and the dates and times you will be available to help, plus which charity you would like to support.
Our chosen Carole Nash biking heroes will be contacted by the Carole Nash team at the earliest possible opportunity.

I did get this email and wondered the same as you. If I had an accident, insured by Nash, doing one of these deliveries that is directed by them, would they still offer me the same level of cover? Or would they wriggle?

I doubt they can really class that as 'business' use

Especially as they are pushing it.

It's more of a pleasure thing I'd say if your willing to 'help out'

Personally I'd say there's more to worry about in life and take the risk. Then again I might not even participate anyway, would depend if sunny or not Laughing

I hope BodyGuard has it on his.

Marmalade, you might suggest to them that when #BikerHero is an inevitable no show, they could pass on your details to the people in distress.

People will do it, it's only one step away from blood bikers

If you aren't getting paid for it, can they exclude it under the insurance?
I'd guess that it's probably deemed as a 'social' use...
But I would check first Laughing

Freedom.

Actually, it's not free as they are receiving consideration. Prince William donates his air ambulance salary to chaaaridy, but that doesn't mean that he can skip having insurance, right?

You mean, collect it from his parents house and take it to heaven?

I can't imagine the fuel cost

Missed the post with my nephew's first birthday present? No problem i'll just go call in on my sister it's only half a tank of petrol away.

My little girl is at her nanna's (i.e. my thankfukly not mother in law) and has forgotten her teddies and it is the end of the world, and nobody is getting any sleep until they arrive. They're getting delivered unless i've had a beer.

Best friend's wife (who i can't stand) has assignment due and broke the printer. The only question really is whether i have a spare to strap to the back of a bike.

My partner's colleague has run out of petrol. Yep that's me with a fuel can.

That's just what I do because i have transport and keep odd and flexible hours. Would i give up a day to do random fetch quests to promote an insurance company? Nope. Theres a difference here. Willing acts of unexpectedly nice are generally repaid in ways that make my world better. My mother thinks bikes are the best thing i ever did, partners mother wont pick a fight with me, best friend's wife doesnt complain too much when i show up with a technical drawing and something really big gets built.

The second this were to become an exercise in getting things to people outside of my sphere of influence who need it in a hurry, that's when money changes hands. And there are people out there better suited to the task than me. Do a job, get paid for it.

When was the last time anyone thought a my hermes driver was a hero rather than a barely competent oik intent on playing football with your delivery? Thought not.

Anyone participating in the big community efforts for HMtQ's birthday? See, we dont need no council to embezzle money meant for cleaning parks up. We can pick up the needles and dog shit ourselves every day.

Up next: HS2 to be built by workfare labour.
