PostPosted: 12:45 - 25 Mar 2016    Post subject: How's It Hanging - Bike Gear Storage? Reply with quote

Hello BCF,

I've finally moved by bike from the parents place to mine Dance!

However I now have the challenge of finding a place to store my bike gear. 1 set of Textiles, 1 set of leathers & 2 lids amongst other stuff.

I don't really want to store my gear in the shed my SV lives in, but I've not got a great amount of room elsewhere.
So I'm after ideas from the BCF hordes.

Where do you keep your bike gear?

Big hooks fixed from the shed roof rafters Thumbs Up

Only very acrobatic mice will bother your kit then Thumbs Up

I got the rack suggested by Matt in post #10 here:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=306385

Feels a bit flimsy when you build it but it's done the job. I have it balanced on a shoe rack.

Nearest floor space in the flat for jacket, trousers and boots.... gloves and helmet live in the lockup with the bike (if someone is going to steal one of them, then I'm thinking of their safety first)

I built an ottoman from MDF, I live in a small flat so it doubles up as extra seating when needed too.

Lid and gloves on top of the fridge freezer.

Boots, leathers, textiles and spare lids, in the cupboard under the stairs.

Got one of those door hook/hanging things. Bike jacket lives on that, helmet/gloves tucked away in a corner.

Leathers get stored away nicely in the wardrobe and work stuff hangs with the coats in the hall.

My legs are my best feature too...along with my baby's arm grabbing an orange sized dick.

I have a utility cupbord thing with the electricity meter and suchlike. It's an awkward waste of space with a large concreted in shelf at the back. I suspect it might have once contained solid fuel water heating gubbins. There's just enough room to hang a jacket and trousers without fouling the door, and i've got my main helmet on a a shelf with a non-slip mat. I need to close the door if i fry or cook anyhthing likely to make my kit smell. Will probably change door for a sliding door to maximise space.

Spare helmet lives inside helmet box on a shelf that is just the right size in what is otherwise an annoying fitted cupboard. The kit I'm not wearing daily (so leathers in winter, winter textiles in summer) goes in a fitted wardrobe that't too shallow to hang a shirt across. Currently a bodge job but i think. two or even three rails mounted to the wall and pointing forwards would fix that. Might have my crazy friend weld me something.

I use a biker tidy. Brill bit of kit fits my leathers. Textiles. Base layers. 2 other summer jackets. 2 helmets. 4 pairs of gloves and a bit of room spare. I have the medium one.

Over-the-door hooks in the utility room. Helmet and boots on the DIY rack also in the utility room.

Considered a biker tidy - probably would do if I had more gear.
