Quick tip for extending the life of chains with a tight spot.

Pulled YR5 rear wheel today to change cush drive as i'm trying to eliminate all the backlash from the transmission and i've already fixed the clutch basket. On reassembly i set the chain to the recommended tension of 3/4" only to find a monumental tight spot which took the slack down to nearer 10mm. In an attempt to extend the life of the chain i sprayed it with plusgas and left it to soak for 20 minutes or so, then stuck it in gear with the engine running for a couple of minutes to spin the chain over. Et voila, no more tight spot.

Yes i intend to change the chain before Cadwell in July, but it's probably extended it's life for a few months.

Should be okay with a 20 hp X5, but here's no chance I'll take a risk with the 100+ hp exup....

Nope, plusgas isnt a lubricant, it's a penatrant. I will lube it once i come to use it. It flushed loads of shit out the links though. Normal lubes wouldn't do that, plus plusgas wouldn't do the chain much good on the road.

Also a good bodge to remember when selling a bike, along with classics like the clean battery and bog paper gland packing on top of fork seals.

I would guess that PlusGas is full of nasties that will bugger up the O-rings nicely.

Probably, hence the comment.
