Looking for some advice on some rust I've noticed today whilst cleaning my bike. You'll have to bear with me on the part names as I'm still learning.

I've attached a picture (if I've done it right) but it is on the shaft that the front sprocket is fixed to (driveshaft?). The bike is a 2007 GSR 600 and I'm hoping this isn't a expensive problem or something I can solve my self.

Was the picture taken by a Smurf Photographer?

May just be displaying weird on my pc but its like 100x100 pixels on my end, like a family photo by the Borrowers. Laughing

Just to clarify though, I would point out to take the front sprocket and chain off before taking a wire brush to the shaft.
I would assume it is an O/X Ring chain.
Personally I wouldn't really worry about it, the external splines get splashed in lubricant fairly regularely on a well maintained chain. Whistle

I am curious why you appear to have taken a photo from the underside of the bike rather than taking the front sprocket cover off though?

I dont know your bike personally, but according to Lé Google it should look something like this, only attached...

Odd that you know what a front sprocket etc is, but not how to get at one. Laughing

But yeah, just lube the shit out of your chain, spin the wheel, clear up any run off, then move on with your life imo.

Yeah it appears to be an odd design, its what pushed me towards old 500s, I like to do my own mechanics and those damn 600s have fiddly arrangements in comparison. Thinking
