Are they an just indicator of a dropped bike or do people actually fit them because 'other reasons' ?

I fitted some to my bandit 400 because they made it comfier to ride with my ape like arms.
And they were red.

I fit narrower bars for filtering. Brand name ones, not so much. It's just a bent metal tube.

I changed bars to no-name steel ones on my Bandit too - just to change the position (put black flat drag bars on rather than the chromed risers that are standard). I noticed my mate round the corner has changed the bars on his Tiger 1050 to Renthal flat drag bars - but with risers underneath for some reason. Again, he just prefers the shape.

Doesn't mean the bike hasn't been dropped though!

The ones on my Africa Twin were a better fit for me height wise and the thicker wall also killed enough of the normal bar vibration that I was able to get rid of the end weights altogether. I therefore had my hands further apart (which was what I wanted) but the bars were no wider in total when it came to filtering.

The ones on my DR350 were much tougher than the Suzuki steel ones so constantly landing on its side when green laning didn't make them bend into odd and amusing shapes.

I do a lot of sitting for long periods between 40mph - 60mph around the M25 during rush hour on a 125 4 poke.

If I didn't fit renthals my arms would have vibrated loose and fallen off at the shoulder years ago. With the right bars and bar ends renthals do a good job of reducing vibration.

I have renthal low (not ultra low) on my bandit. Marginally more comfortable than stock and the ultra lows got in the way of muffs. I cut about 30mm off each end as they felt too wide.
