Hi there! I'm looking for a commuter bike and would really appreciate some help in finding the right one. Already did some research, found a few bikes that could work for me but would like to hear some opinions from someone who has more experience.

I'm 6.1'' more on the skinny side, around 165lbs, my budget for bike is ~2,5-3k. The daily commute is not that long, ~15-20 miles a day trough the city, but would like to have the ability to take longer rides on the weekends, so that means motorway suitability, and a more straight up riding position for comfort. Also a chance to fit some luggage would be a plus, but not essential. Would like to ride all year, so looking for something that will not dissolve after the first winter. Planning on doing the maintenance myself, so the easier it is to work on the bike the better. I prefer practicality over everything, so looks does not matter that much.

At the moment have been looking at the bmw f650gs (pre '09), suzuki sv650 naked version and the 600 and 650 bandits. Seem reliable enough, in my price range, should do the things I need them to. Thoughts?

Would be very grateful for any kind of advice, opinions off these bikes, or maybe alternatives?

The CB600F might be worth a look.

You are describing Fazer FZS 600 here. Which is better bike than all the above and will be cheaper as well. It has great engine, the best brakes in class, very practical with half fairing and comfty. Its ugly too.

I have one Very Happy

2002-2003 Foxeye models look better Thumbs Up

Naked bikes are not good fit for all year and/or motorway riding.

You can look at XJ6S Diversion too.

Bandit S or XJ6F, and there'll be plenty left in your budget for a can of ACF50 Thumbs Up

Another vote for the 2003 Fazer. It will do everything you want.

I've been using a Bandit SK for a year-round daily commuter (20 miles each way) ... and for the occasional weekend trip.

In fact, I did around 300 miles on it this weekend, comfy enough, no issues. The fairing gives a bit of wind and weather protection, the riding position is fairly upright, but with the option to duck down behind the screen for motorway blasts Wink
