I'm still amazed people move to London. Just outside, 20 mins absolute most gives you a 300k house with garden garage and 3 bedrooms Neutral

You'll get your right move link when I get my offer accepted Wink

Totally Paddy but I've lived in London the last 18 years and don't want to move out yet. Plus don't fancy the extra 3-5k on my commute. (And the Mrs wouldn't have a bar of it either)

This way I get garden (shared but big) garage (private) driveway (private) and only just south of the river and next to a park. I can live with that.

Nice if you like traffic, I was there last week and the A13/M25 intersection was absolutely fooked in all directions and every
back way into/around Lakeside was too. Took me over 40 mins (I was in my van, although amusingly my bike was in the back)
from Bradleigh Avenue Grays to the M25 coming home and yet only an hour from joining the M25 at J30 to leaving it again at the M4 J15.
My mate who I was visiting said the roadworks were gonna be in for 2 years.

Angryjonny's experience of every set of major roadworks:

Council slash Highways Department claims 2 years.
Factor in contractors' 50% leaning-on-spade multiplier: 3 years.
20% VAT: 3 years 7 months.
6 months contingency: 4 years 1 month.
2 months tinkering with the lights to get them to snarl up every junction as badly as possible: 4 years 3 months.

The M3 round our way has been a Charlie Foxtrot for a year and a half. Contractors have finally fessed up that aside from putting in speed limits, SPECS, concrete barriers and breaking a hitherto servicable bridge, they haven't actually done anything yet. Now it's expected to run for at least as long again.

Currently I'm looking at south of Dirtford Tunnel, so Orpington, Swanley (the non Ghetto end) and just on the edge of Erith.

I've found 4 serious contenders for 290,000. Considerably nicer than anything I can find inside London Sad

We moved to Ockendon 2 years ago. I was able to commute 18 miles in 22 minutes into Canary Whalf. Twas Superb.

Since then, all they've managed to do is completely balls the whole A13 up.

So we moved. It was the only real thing going for the area.

I’ve lived in London 46 years and am absolutely sick of the place. I’m moving out to Kent - far better bang for buck on houses. Admittedly the commute is a pain but I just can’t wait to get out of the place. Its a fuckin’ karzi now. Everywhere and everything is overpriced and the transport and road systems are crap. Good riddance to the place.

Yeh, my sister has moved from Bexley Heath out into Kent a bit following the sale of the marital home there.
She certainly couldn't buy there again with only half the proceeds of the Bexley place. Divorce eh?

They're all more than 20 minutes from Central London, maybe 20minutes to the postcodes.

Bexleyheath is quite a posh area too.

I'm in the same boat. Splitting up with an ex and we had a place for 12 years together (was together for 18) and the rate at which its gone up since we bought it is just stupid.

Can't wait to get out. Currently living on the Essex / London borders and its the worst. I hate it there.

Oh no doubt its more than 20 to central, but I can get a train from work to Vic in 18 mins, and with the house I'm looking at, its a 5 minute cycle to work. So 23 mins to Victoria isn't too mad IMO compared to my current 1h10 to Vic Laughing

That's if you take the helicopter that you can now afford along with the 6 acre garden to land it in, all saved from the lower council tax and free eggs given away by the old lady next door.

How long is a "country mile" anyway?? Laughing

So thats 23 minutes without waiting for a train that doesn't get delayed with absolute perfect timing from your door to the train station and no travel time from Victoria. Takes longer for a mate of mine to get in from Eltham.
