I know this is going to generate some random answers, because this is a 'how long is a piece of string question', but how long would be considered reasonable to get out of a set of clutch plates before they would need replaced? Under normal riding conditions, commuter miles, etc.

My TDM did about 30k per clutch, that's hard mileage though, lots of stop start commuting through London.

I replaced the ZX6's (original) clutch recently after about 45 000 miles on it. It was still very useable overall but it had been a bit sticky until it warmed up for almost a year - used to clunk unpleasantly when first shifting into gear.

Suddenly started noticing it became worse a couple of months ago and it needed a couple of minutes riding before it was happy to shift comfortably at higher temps, so decided to replace it to avoid any future hassle. Visually they didn't actually look all that bad either in the end, but it ''fixed'' it straight away.

Thats using 10w40 semi-synth (regularly changed), and a fairly even mix of ''fun''/town commuting/motorway miles over the years.

64,000 miles on my CBR at the moment and i'm vaguely sure that it's on the original clutch. Nothing in the paperwork about clutch plates that I can see.

I've also done a RWYB at Santa Pod and I clutch up the front every now and then.

Good ol' Honda eh. (Older Honda I mean!)

Dunno, never had to change one (highest mileage 30k), although I'm not particularly kind to my clutch when pulling away so I might be tempting fate here Whistle

Two mates bikes both went @ 30k, SR125 & CBR600F.

I know of someone who got less than 1500 miles from a BMWK100 clutch.

Quite an achievement on a huge clutch that's fine in your average car.

Fazer's done over 34,000 miles on the original clutch, no issues so far, and that's 99% London commuting.

Hi

Varies greatly. Never changed a set of plates on an Aprilia 125 and have hideously abused them. Bimota clutch was replaced at about 13k (but Yamaha clutch are in general a doddle to change).

All the best

Katy
