I was thinking today, what could I buy or collect now that might be worth a few bob in 100 years time?

It would have to be something that wouldn't degrade in its original packaging. Iconic toys or tech? do you think in the future there will even be a market for nostalgia, or have we reached a point where most things are so mass produced that it renders them not "retro" enough to be worth much, even 60 years from now?

What if someone bought a Halfords mountain bike and kept it boxed, or even a brand new lexmoto 125? I guess that would rust.

What would you spend £100 quid on now, or perhaps collect over a few years that might be potentially valuable? It seems to me that there is future value in keeping stuff that others don't tend to keep.

Buy art by recognised artists.

Buying tat and storing it in the hope it will increase in value is a hiding to nothing. The issue with 'collectibles' is that people buy them thinking 'that's going to be worth X in years to come' not realising every other chancer is thinking the same.

I wonder how many lurpack butter dishes 'mint in original packing' are out there?

The things that become valuable do so because they are rare.

Star Wars toys are meant to be a solid investment.

Was once told a dubious story about a friend of a bloke I used to work with who bought a few toys every month since the age of 16 and kept them in his spare bedroom. Room is now full of original boxed toys and his collection is apparently privately insured and he's planning on retiring from the profits as some pieces are worth thousands individually.

If you have the space then classic motorcycles, I believe they're classed as a depreciating asset when it comes to inheritance tax so you're not stung with large taxes like you can be with property?
