Stiff spark plug. - It snapped.

I don't want to say seiezed because I don't know if it is. Anyway one of the plugs furthest into the engine on my FZS is pretty tight I don't know if a previous owner has gorilla'd it or it has never been changed.

Lastime around when changing the plugs was when I first discovered it which was about a year or so ago. It wouldn't budge with reasonable force not wanting it to snap and leave the bike crippled I slowly forgot about it until now.

The service is due soon and I intend to change the oil + filter and plugs as part of it.

I'm aware squirting the stiff plug with plusgas helps which I will do every day for a week prior to the service. But what if it doesn't budge and how much pressure can I safely apply without it snapping?

Someone might give a better answer here, so don't take it as gospel, but there is nothing you can do beyond doing what you are doing it will either come out or it won't, I can't see any benefit of leaving in a knackered plug that might be seized against having a go and possibly breaking it.

Plus gas as you have said and then be gradual increasing pressure till it comes out (or snaps)

Realistically leaving it has probably just made it worse.

There's only one way to get it out.

Could try plus gas and heat, either run the engine for a while or get a torch.

Another suggestion which should not necessarily be followed. I once had similar on a spark plug.

I (perhaps stupidly) switched my ratchet and tightened it a very small amount. This helped me win on that occasion.

Good luck. But I'd do what you're doing in preparation; penetration oil all over it for a good while.

I thought so with regards to it going one way or the other.

I have fantasised about taking it to a garage and if it snaps it's their problem to sort out at their expense?

Alternatively I could sell it now and get an FZS 1000 but then again I enjoy a good workshop challenge.

Not much to do but try. Do it on a day when you aren't depending on it and have a backup plan ready.

Forget about taking it to a garage and expecting it to be fixed for free. They will just ring up and tell you one of your plugs has sheared off and it's £xx.xx to repair it. It's not their fault it seized.

Make sure the drain hole is clear by pouring boiling water around the spark plug and making sure it drains. If it is blocked using a bit of wire unblock it.
Shine a torch into the plug recess and check there is no debris in it. If there is boiling water with washing up liquid and poke out the drain hole.

Once clear it should be easier to remove the plug as the plug spanner will sit lower on the plug.

Another good idea is to tape a thin straw to the end of a vacuum and use that to suck out anything too big to go through the drain holes.

Hope threads don't get damaged in the process. If they do, you will need to use a helicoil.
