22,000 idiots signed this.

If the Gov looks into it, they would most likely apply zero VED to mopeds and 125s as a token gesture, then introduce a sliding scale where litrebikes pay hundreds.

We've got a pretty good deal regarding vehicle tax and would do well to keep quiet about it. These online crusaders are eventually going to shoot themselves and everyone else in the foot.

Why compare highest rate bike tax with lowest rate car tax? Hardly a fair argument. Most would happily pay £80 a year to ride a Fireblade than pootle around in a £0 VED ecobox.

Most bikes currently on the road are Euro 3 compliant, same deal as cars from sixteen years ago. We're hardly able to play the eco-card here.

Finally, the only reason bikes cover an 'minimal annual mileage' is because many owners take their cars instead.

Stupid petition is stupid. Thumbs Down

MAG looked into this some time ago and came out against... it does the rounds every now and again.

little bikes would get a free ride but bigger bikes would have to pay more as the government would expect it to be a zero cost ( to them) or a money generatin exercise ...

don`t sign.. Thumbs Down

My MOT, tax and insurance all land in the same month. Which is only slightly more than the cost of taxing my car.

Oh hai, thanks for dropping by to shill this ill informed, utterly obsolete garbage again, to which The Man has already responded.

VED is changing for new cars in 2017 to (essentially) a flat rate. Now, given that we don't even know what's going to happen for motorcycles, how about we focus on that, rather than bawwwing about the historical situation.

Just had my tax demand for the Trophy. £82. I'm not sure whether that is good value or not. Wifies Renault Twingo 1200 is £30 for the year because it has some eco sticker on the back but I doubt my emissions are more than hers.
What's the highest tax bracket now? 600cc? (no, I can't be arsed to google it) but I would be pissed of paying that for a 650.

I pay 80-odd quid per annum; therefore I am an above average motorcycle owner.
or
I am an average motorcycle owner; therefore I should be paying only 54 quid.

There's no such thing as an 'average motorcycle owner'.
So: On average, motorcycle owners pay £54 per year

Bike engines in comparison to current "eco" car engines are filthy if they started to base bike tax on emissions we'd get royally shafted.

I pay £82 for my 650 it doesn't bother me in the slightest it's fuck all in the grand scheme of riding.

Having effectively removed the need to check for insurance before issuing tax, there is now no argument at all for maintaining a behemouth of a department to administer VED for ANY vehicle and not simply putting it directly on fuel.

Which, shockingly, would mean the heaviest used and least efficient vehicles would pay more pro-rata and would almost totally remove any possability of evading VED.

But think of all the unemployed Welsh people, redundant ANPR systems and "fines" they'd be missing out on.

I would have had trikes fall into the same tax regime as bikes. As it's either 125cc rates or full price at the moment.
