I usually use skyscanner to get an idea of what will be best, then always go and book directly with the actual airline rather than using one of the 3rd party sellers.
Anyone got any good/bad stories or names to avoid? |
It's all a bit hit and miss, but we usually do the same as you!
What we have been doing is booking two one way tickets, it can be cheaper than a return!
Storywise.
We were returning from Cyprus last weekend, got to the check in desk and the girl asked us if we could fly on another day, as the plane was over booked. We hummed and hahed but declined.
Once we'd gone through passport control etc, we changed our minds and spoke to the same girl who was now at the gate.
On offer was €300 each, a free hotel for the night and a free taxi to take us there, we could then get the same flight 24hrs later.
They retrieved our luggage and put it to one side, we were told to wait at the gate until all the passengers were on the plane, as long as everyone turned up we'd get our freebies, YAY!
There were 2 no shows, so we had to take the flight, felt like we'd just been mugged! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Skyscanner seems to not be very accurate with the prices. My old flatmate swore by it but I could never find a good deal, with advertised prices always coming out different when I clicked through to see about actually buying.
I use Kayak. They have an app too. 99% of the time you pay exactly the price advertised.
Apparently if you clear cookies etc you get better deals as they can't tell you're revisiting the site. |
