Drive is via a Variator, does it require any lubrication? I'm asking because this has been stood for a few years, the Variator is fully exposed, and apart from the theory, I don't know much about them.

nope,
you could if you wanted spray some silcone spray on the rollers inside the variator,
but spraying the variator itself would get result in lots of belt slip

Thanks, it was the internals that I was wondering about. Silicone spray it is then.

Are you sure its a variator ? most go carts just have a centrifugal clutch and chain drive in which case they don't need any maintenance apart from the chain
