Not bike related but what is the process for claiming off the council for damage to wheels/tyres after hitting a pothole and has anyone been successful in claiming?

I've got an awful vibration after hitting a few, so I need to get all 4 wheels checked for buckles and probably get them balanced as well (if they're not buckled). Run flat tyres, 18 inch alloys!

Don't particularly see why I should pay for this.

I've got pictures of one of the offending holes (will get further pictures of the newest one) which incidentally has now got white lines round it (so they know about it in other words)

Thanks.

I hit an open manhole and wrote off a rear wheel, highways claimed the manhole was fixed the day before so no payout, £250 out of pocket.

Probably, missed it with front wheel, was dark, raining and on a dual carriageway that was shut one side and had redirected traffic.

Yes, one of the lads at work hit a pothole down a back road and burst a tyre. Alloy was fine, amazingly.

After a bit of back and forth between him and the council, they paid for a replacement tyre less the value of how far the tyre had already been used, so on a tyre he'd used about 12K miles on he got 66% of the cost of a new one.

Semi Win.

We've also noticed that our council is also pretty good at filling them once reported!

Its a shit fill, tarmac smacked in with a shovel but its better than walloping a 4" deep hole.

Before you try to claim, you need to find if they were aware of the pothole in the first place.

Submit an FOI request to the local council, or the HA if it their responibility.
https://whatdotheyknow.com

If the council / HA have known about it for longer than 2 weeks (I think) before you hit said pothole, then you can submit a claim to the council / HA for ponds.

That's a maximum speed, not a recommendation.

AFAIK, speed humps should be a maximum of 100mm.

My sister did many years ago.

A pothole bent her wheel frame.
I seem to remember it taking a very long time of persistence and I'm not even sure she got any compensation.

A friend had a similar issue but with a broken bridge. He was cycling and his wheel went down the broken bit and he bust his mouth up.

Dentistry cost him a fortune. I think he took them to court in the end got money a couple of years after the accident.
