Why do these fucksticks always insist on giving their life/sob story? I'm not buying a relationship with you and your brood, just talk about the bike.

And he expects £40K from sight-unseen international buyers, but won't front a few hundred for a top notch professional photoshoot?

I hope he gets all the offers of Staffies and X-Boxen that he deserves.

As an investment... possibly, but pretty long term.
There's other things I'd do with my 40k.

As a piece of Artwork - I'd prefer custom made for my money.

For the riding experience - can get a hell of a lot more.
I'd start with a 250cc GP bike. Similar power, 2/3rds the weight, a quarter the cost or so.

Asking price doesn't imply that they're actually going for that. If you can still see the ad, it hasn't sold at that price.

But they just aren't that good. £10k maybe... £15k possibly, but £40k for a 75bhp two stroke with spindly frame and tiny wheels? No way.

As G says I'd rather buy a TZ250 or something for less than a quarter of the price.

8-10k for the best mint near original bikes is realistic, and for a well engineered professionaly built RGV250/500 or RS 250 special or a Spondon framed one then depending on spec and desirability up to 20k I'd say could be got for one.

A 30year old 2stroke engine that's been stored in the dry and warm is probably not much better than one that's been sat in a damp shed. It'll probably need new seals after a few miles if it runs at all? I'd be worried about perished hoses and stuck clutches as much as anything else tho.

I wouldn't spend 40k on any bike, but it's a bulky and some might say quite ugly investment compared to other art objects.

Add to this theres enough RG's in museums and private static collections, so as many left as possible should be out being used and enjoyed by their owners instead of sat around on display stands

Let's see, £40k on that relic or £20k on a rather nice current superbike. leaving 20k to buy another and store it for 20 years, when it will be worth around the same as the other one. £20k

A terrible way to spend £40k. Would you ride it and see it's condition deteriorate and it's value plummet? No? Then what enjoyment will you or anyone else get from it? £40k's worth?

Put it in a museum so everyone can go and look at it, along with pristine examples of all the others. That, imo, is the best place for such machines. I wish we had such a museum here in the UK. But I don't really want to go back and have all the bikes I once had over again. Not at £40k. Not at £10k even.

If I won the Euromillions I would actually Very Happy I'd also go back to the previous owner & fill their face with 2-stroke smoke.

I don't really like museums that never run cars/bikes. I believe the Haynes motor museum keep their stuff in running order/actually use them.

Also personally don't think bikes have the same wow factor (as cars). You don't see Bugatti Veyron's very often, you do see top of the range sport bikes. Sure you have classic stuff but in terms current/recent top end bikes they're all pretty attainable.

G and co are talking bollocks. A 250 GP bike would be shit on the road just like a motorcrosser would be. At least an RG has an oil pump and proper electrics, and is also easily tuned for 90-100 rwbhp without taking a reliability hit. Plus an 4 cylinder stroker will always have that certain thing a twin never will.

Also i was a feeler gauge off buying an RG for £1750 in 1998 and got persuaded at the 11th hour to buy a 4t instead. Never got over that.

I wasn't particularly thinking road.

However; ridden motocross and competition enduro bikes on the road in various guises - with road tyres they're usually lots of fun.

I was thinking as a museum piece, or track toy.

We both screwed up there then. I was a whisker away in 2000/2001 from buying a Pepsi RG500 and a Red/black one, both were under £2300.

I missed out even more on a grey import Repsol NS400R and on an RD500 with gearbox problems.

Id love an NS400 today still, even more than a TDR250, but it's about 5years or more too late to buy one now.

I'll have to stick with 125 and 200cc trail bikes, not that I mind much tbh!

£40k is ridiculous, you can get one of those way cheaper.

20k eur (Germany, took me 3 seconds to find and there were, are, and will be cheaper RG500's): https://ww3.autoscout24.de/classified/283136601?asrc=st|as

A chunk, not £25k over the odds though...

Granted that.
I would expect it to realistically be worth about £25k
Not of my money though, fuck that, I'd want it at about £5k of my hard earned.
