What's the cheapest way to build a shed/workshop? 10x8 foot minimum.
Cheers.[/list]

Find someone giving one away (concrete ones are very regularly given away due to the hassle in moving them, but wood ones are some times too.)
Then probably to buy a second hand one in need of repair. Next possibly to build out of OSB3 if building out of relatively new (to being a shed) materials.

Ive tried looking at free sheds for pickup and they are always smaller ones. Theyre alwasy a bit low as well. Im 6'2" so want to be able to stand up easily in it and not be banging my head off the roof.

Ill be building ot on the ground. Its pretty solid as was gravel covered once but ten years of neglect had now turned it into a near as much solid base of gravel and grass. Its a nice flat area as well. I was thinking of making a base structure like a decking frame then building up from there.

Depends what your budget is really. Piece of string and all that.

I'm looking at building a 26'x12' this year (sneaks in under building regs limit) and it's looking like the thick end of 6 grand for a decent log lap structure. I can put up a concrete pre fab for about 4 grand odd but it'd need lining and end up costing nearly as much to make as nice as a proper timber job. Biggest fuck ache with big timber builds is building regs saying if it's within a meter of the boundary it has to be fireproofed. I live in a semi posh rural village so there's every chance I'll have the parish council breathing down my neck so can't get away with 'fuck it no one will say anything' approach.

You can get a little 10x8 wooden job for well under a grand, just depends how long you want it to stand for really. A good brick base two high to stand on is a big plus if you can, will weather loads better.

My particular situation demanded a bespoke build. The area behind our large workshop at the top of the garden is an awkward triangular shape. So I got a load of wood from a local wood recycling company; mostly large pallet slats which I used to make a floor, and some 4 X 2 beams (some they got from colleges, really strong). For the sides I used some from an old shed we had there and the rest of the sides I made from feather edge boards.
Total cost of the wood was around £120 and I wired it up using left over stocks of electrics from when I fitted up the workshop. Good result; I can work on the bike in there and I have a large piece of 3mm steel which 1) spreads the load on the floor from the centre stand feet and 2) enables me to pivot the bike round on the stand for exiting the shed.
Works well and cosy with sound system - Man Shed lol.

That's one feature I'm keen for in my new man cave but I think I'll use a dolly.

LOL! I'm lucky as my bike is quite light, being basically a CM125C with a 233cc motor (wow, nearly 80 on the clock flat out....)
With a bigger bike, I would also have to use a dolly.

I also have a triangular space at the rear of my property which could be used but is awkward to power. I also have an idea to make a geodesic dome resting on a 1 meter high wall. I even worked out the cost to make it from panels cut from insulating foam. Not that much as it happens just a few hundred quid.

This is an interesting site if anyone is interested in geodesics.

Build a pallet shed? I had considered this but then decided it wasn't worth it and just bought a 19mm tanalised one instead.

Im now thinking of a steel shed.

https://www.shedstore.co.uk/garden-sheds/metal-sheds/yardmaster/yardmaster-green-1013geyz-metal-shed-13-by-10-with-floor-support-frame-kit

I used to be sceptical about them but my brother got a small one for his pushbikes and I was quite impressed. All in all not too expensive and can easily be insulated. PLus i could just weld the door shut when im away Smile

A few weeks ago I modified my shed. Cost nil, well sort of. Redundant Celotex and plywood from the main workshop which my lad is upgrading had now made the shed nice and snug.
