Hi

Not been sure about posting this, and it feels a bit wrong to post it. Feels a bit too self important, but as a few people have noticed I changed my name last year so I had better give a bit more info. This is an early part of a long and difficult process. I did say a few things on Facebook some time ago, but resisted saying anything on here.

In simple terms for a very long time I have desperately wished I was female. Never admitted this to anyone (even when under 10 it was something that I knew would bring me trouble). About 18 months ago I bumped in to a friend I hadn't seem for quite a while who had transitioned in the mean time. This really kicked open some firmly closed mental doors but I still couldn't admit it. Going to the bike show was a strange experience with bouncing between a sort of floating ambivalence and wanting to run into a corner and cry, admitting everything. I finally summoned the courage and admitted it to Charlotte in February last year; she has been incredibly understanding and supportive.

Things have moved on since then. I started signing myself with just a K early last year as a sort of gentle break in to changing my name. Visited the docs last year and joined a rather long waiting list. I legally changed my name in August and came out at work at the end of September (and moved to signing myself Katy). A bit strange suddenly becoming the person at work whose name everyone knows.

Finally admitting it to people was probably the hardest thing I have ever done. Never sure how people will take it, especially to start with.

Since then I have been out and about. Gigs, bike shows, model shows meals out, etc Helped on stands serving the public at shows. Almost everyone has been very supportive. And some people on here and in general have been very supportive.

I am still me, just a bit more relaxed and happier.

All the best

Katy

That's all that matters. Well that and all the help you gave me with the GPZ.

You and Charlotte are both lovely people, I'm very glad I finally got to meet you.

Brave decision, in life you only get one run through though, so I completely understand anyone wanting this.

Braver still letting this lot loose with that info. I'm avoiding the obvious entendre about having balls etc.

Best of luck with

I guess it won't be easy but I can count on one hand the people whose opinion I'd take notice of. I couldn't care less about appearance/choices/whatever, you'd still be a good person.

It's not like he has come out with something controversial like turning to vegetarianism!

Katy, not many people open up about their true self. Good luck with everything.

You'll always be a part of bcf. And despite the number of nobs in the world and bcf. I think you will find that 99% either don't care. Or are happy for you

Straight up thought you were sharing your account with wife/partner.

But I always was slow to catch on.

Hopefully your transition will be everything you wished for and more.

Thumbs Up

Honestly one of my biggest gripes in life is that people cannot just be who they are, without fear of prejudice or ridicule.

Well done on just being you Thumbs Up

Kinda sussed it from the observation. I dont know you personally but even if I did it makes no difference as long as you're happy and mentally healthy with it then all the best Thumbs Up

Infact the best way to express this is: I still trust your bike and maintenance knowledge Mr. Green

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been living such a long time unable to be who you wanted. Although I don't know you, I'm happy for you and hope the future brings everything you could hope for Thumbs Up

Oh, and are those the Aprilia 'Factory' colours on your nails or is that coincidence? Mr. Green

I'm confused.
Bikes are traditionally a manly subject, you know a lot about bikes yet you want to be a woman.
My knowledge of bikes can be documented on a postage stamp yet I am a man.

Fair play to you I say, life is potentially too short.
