Why is it that there are so many pop ups these days. Only noticed it since being back in the UK. It's like every second click I get annoying windows that open advertising. Mostly betting sites and general crap.

How can they be stopped? i have run malwarebytes and swept but still the same

I have no adblocking software at all and am rarely bothered by popups.

The interstitial adverts are a ballache though.

I don't know why they persist with the damned things anyway. An intrusive advert is one thing that will make me specifically go out of my way to avoid a company.

Agree, it sounds like that computer has some kind of adware/malware probably downloaded piggy-backed on something else.

Generally, because I am looking at sites (maybe wrongly) to download movies or stuff off the tv, (like older series stuff) you can go to the page, then when you make a second click on the item you are interested in, up pops a new window. Then, you cannot close simply by the red x button, but get a box come up saying 'do you want to leave this page' This is what I am getting.

Must add though, the first link add-on that J.M posted has stopped this so far. Thumbs Up

I also use Ghostery to get rid of stuff like Google Analytics and social (i.e. facebook) integration on sites. Stuff I never use and couldn't care less about.

Try using superantispyware, it gets rid of no end of adware crap.
