Anyone used it and have any thoughts? Having a lot of tendon/joint issues, been recommended Glucosamine by a few people.

Also a bit confused by whats best to take (sulphate/hydrocloride) and the combinations available.

I used glucosamine sulphate in addition to cod liver oil tablets (a widely recommended combination when I started) for a couple of years. I had some sport/overuse issues together with joint problems from a car crash.

It seemed to make a difference, but as with many of these things it's difficult to tell if it is psychosomatic or not - and the tablets aren't the cheapest things.

I take glucosamine and chondiratrin every day, and when I dont after a week I really notice the difference.

Kickboxing training 3 times a week or more and I notice the lack of stretch or flexibility, strength and confidence in my joints is much less without.

I take around 3 a morning of the Boots ones, advised by the GP for about 1000mg a day with what I do in mind.

That's the ones. I was trying to remember what the other bit was.

I had a discussion with my GP about this a few years back.
He said that there had been some research to say it worked but only in 1500mg daily doses. So I had to take 3 of the 500mg tablets I'd already bought on the recs of a friend...
Are they now saying 1000mg daily is sufficient?

Theres's no proper clinical evidence to support the use of glucosamine and it has recently been withdrawn from the prescribable drug list by NHS Scotland - not sure about the rest of the country.

I did ask my physio and he said the same thing, no evidence it helped and actually some trials against it, but I'm willing to give it a try based on word of mouth.

I did try some glucosamine vitamin things from tesco a while ago (probably low dose), but I want to give one of the proper supplements a go. Holland and Barrett have gluco' sulphate tablets (up to 1000mg) and then with stuff like Chondroitin/MSM (more expensive).

What I tell my animal clients is that there is no conclusive evidence it helps. Some studies suggest it might and anecdotally some owners report asn improvement in their animals lameness when they give it. Others report no change.

At best, it will help. At worst it is an horrifically expensive protein source.

I was wondering how you could tell if it was helping an animal, maybe if Benji's dry humping your leg more vigorously than usual?

Anyhoo, started on 3x 500mg tablets a day, already got the $hits Laughing
