PostPosted: 16:38 - 03 May 2016    Post subject: Odometer changed after few days after buying motorcycle ? Reply with quote

Hi all.
So i bought on couple days ago motorcycle. Yamaha xj6n 2013 11000 miles.
I test ride it with my dad my dad first then let me go with it, all seemed smooth engine working good the guy was stating 11 000 miles on clock ''just below'' when we got there on odometer there was 10700 miles on ODO meter, i checked other trips there was one with 2000 miles second with 1000 miles and i think there was some 3rd one with 70 or something like this but the odo meter was 10 700.
I was riding it about 2 days ago around my street on day and after i bought all was good everything smooth however im turning today ignition on and i saw something not right but i didnt saw it properly so i rode it again up and down my street and i stopped and just wanted to adjust the clock on the display and while i was about to adjust i saw ''ODO 17300'' so i was like ?? so apparently i bought the bike with 10700 miles on it and 3/4 days after its 17300 ?
How is it possible ? How did they do it
Should i go and beat this guy up for this or something ? I mean i don't really mind it because i got it for 2800£ which is i decent price for 2013 yamaha xj6n with 10700 however with 17300 its still i think ok price but not as good as it was with 10700. The engine is running smoothly and everything is working as it should [Except need to change front tire but i will change both same time so about 160£ more to the bike and other than that its running good]

Thanks for help !

Ah yes.

Any images of the odometer showing 'said mileage' from when you saw it? In the ad perhaps? Or screenshots of the ad saying this mileage?

On my Yamaha you hold down 'Select' on the dash to switch from KPH to MPH, try that.

Did you disconnect the battery? Or if the battery is weak and it struggled with starting it may just have reset itself to its default.

'Definitely beat him up' Jeez, I looked at the numbers and immediately thought it had been switched to KM. It's not rocket science, and it's certainly an avenue that should have been investigated before threats of physical violence! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I thought we had some brains on this forum?

If you have the plugs out, change them. I would put iridium plugs in but that's cause I'm lazy and don't like doing things more often than I have to.

I don't know about the original poster but I obviously didn't use enough smilies to convey the sarcasm in my reply.

I'm more worried you thought I was serious to be honest.
