Just as a general rule, if something about a bike makes you question it, then move on to the next one. Otherwise, if nothing else, when you come to sell you could have problems because potential purchasers see the same problem that raised a red flag for you.

Saw a lot of these ones when looking on gumtree... most common walk away instances for me were:

- mileage discrepancies. there could be good reasons, but normal answer is "it was like this when I bought it"
- seller doesn't want to disclose reg. plate (and when he does, it's a different bike)
- seller generally difficult to meet despite good intentions
- "dodgy" mot history - when it sort of looked like he did just a few miles after a fail just to get a pass (debatable) - or when there are too often adivosories

Also, consider that a mot done by a dealer is not worth the paper on which it's print - might be the same for private sales, but less so.

Autotrader's stuff I viewed was generally better than gumtree.

The clocks might have been replaced, it's not unusual. However if the seller hasn't disclosed it up front, that's a good reason to steer clear.

Ask them about it? If they can be straight with you then fair play. If they can't then no doubt there's other stuff they ain't being straight about either.

no she really didn't know you could check mot history online

I showed her when she delivered the car to me
as I had had a look before and spotted it so asked her

she honestly thought she had a really low mileage car

she also didn't realise it had failed mots for stupid things and found them amusing (one tyre bigger then all the others,washer jet not working bulbs etc

Probably replacement clocks. My Enfield is on it's third speedo. They seem to last for 10k miles then the needle does a comedy "donk" to the bottom of the clock.

A common reason to replace clocks (other than failure or a crash) is if the bike's an import. That 32k might have been km. Worth checking.

There are millions of 125s around. The one you are looking at has 40000 miles on it. If it is priced as a 40k 125, ie around £500, it wouldn't bother me
