Broken fairing hole repairs?...

Alright everyone,

Got home from work all excited, my very first ride on my new bike! Started her up and headed for the nearest country road as you do, few miles later on, i look down, and shock horror! the upper fairing panel is missing!

Re trace my steps and eventually find it stuck in a grass verge, two of the bolt holes have cracked across, so the winds caught it and ripped it off i think, leaving me with two bits of plastic left attached to the bike.... Basically i think ive done them up too tight, so lesson learnt there...

So does anyone have any good methods to stick it all back together? I thought plastic welding but id rather not have to sort out the big melty mess afterwards. I also thought i could make up a thin ally piece for behind and glue it back on with some strong stuff? Any ideas appreciated!

Depends on the extent of the damage. I've glued the broken bits back together with a washer behind them before.

Plumber's solvent weld glue is good for fairing plastics -you can also use it with fibreglass matting for reinforcement.

Plastex is good if you need to make new lugs etc, or weld the plastic with a solder iron and any bits of abs plastic.

I managed to find some reyt thin ally sheet we use for lagging at work, so gonna cut a strip of that and try and reinforce all the bolt holes, just need to find a good glue. Is that fibre glass stuff not really bad for you?...
