Im sure this has been asked before but couldnt find anything searching. Should you go through a front facing speed camera too fast, what happens? As you dont have a license plate on the front :/

Static camera; I believe nothing will happen, unless you do it often and they can be bothered to identify you / wait for you.

Scamera van; I've been told they (some) also have a camera to record the rear plate too.

If you regularly take the piss, Dibble can and will lie in ambuscade and nab you personally.

However...

Truvelo are set up to get you on approach. So don't take the piss regularly.

https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/images/speed-camera-types/scggatso.jpghttps://www.speedcamerasuk.com/images/speed-camera-types/digital-gatso-camera.jpg

GATSOs, whether film or digital, are rear facing and are only approved for nabbing you in the direction of travel.

However, GATSOs can be set up to flash, and/or to take pictures, at different speeds, in both directions. Some of them are set up to flash on oncoming traffic. I have no idea whether they're also taking pictures. Conceivably they might take one at truly excessive speeds.

I'm not sure they should be flashing oncoming traffic, but it happens. I've set one off - on the Enfield for extra jollies - oncoming, although it was placed well away on the far side of an urban dual carriageway and so unlikely to cause many dazzle-kitten-deaths.

tl;dr version - take the piss occasionally and not on a particularly distinctive bike.

I have been pondering this as I was going slightly over the speed limit on a dual carriageway in South Wales the other week. Not too sure if the scamera van had a front facing camera that would pick up my reg.

Would they need a camera, or just the operator to clock the plate?

I suppose it depends whether the operators can be arsed to take down the bikes number once it has gone past. I've certainly got away with silly speeds and not been done. Do not try this in the peak district though. They will do you.

I was wondering about this Monday afternoon coming down the M74 toward Carlisle.

Police were picking up the Gumball rally mob for fun, every mile or so there'd be a Lamborghini or Ferrari stopped on the hard shoulder with an unmarked car behind it, but as well as this, there were a couple of camera vans parked up side on, on the bridges.

Being aware of the attention the gumballers were getting, we weren't travelling too fast, 80'ish, but I did wonder if those vans also have a video on the opposite side from the speed recording camera to pick up bike plates - anyone know, been pulled, ticketed ?

I have certainly seen vans with forward and rear facing cameras, the forward facing (as in through windsreen )looked more like conventional video cams rather than the large speed cameras that point out of the rear
Quick edit: alot of them have cctv fitted to.
