Hello All, I'm thinking about starting part time work as a scooter courier. I've seen some adverts that you can earn as much as £13/h.
Can anyone advice which is the best company in London for scooter couriers, most important which one pay the most? Or which ones should be avoided?

I'm not an expert on the subject in the slightest, but if you actually took home £13/h I'd eat my helmet.

Take into account fuel, decent gear, insurance and running costs and I'll be impressed if you end up with more than half that in your pocket as an average over a month.

Insurance for a courier costs circa £50 a months for a Vespa ET4. Fuel consumption is around 2 litres per 100km. Obviously you have to consider things like changing tires more often, brake pads etc. but it doesn't cost a fortune

140mpg urban seems optimistic even for a scootay.

Did you spot that Deliveroo are currently moving to a no drop = no monies system, which I expect will quickly become the model for everyone else.

Quick ballpark, you're looking at 13 drops a month before you cover your insurance and see a penny in your pocket. How part time are you thinking?

Bear in mind that you're committing to paying a year's courier insurance. If you sack it off and cancel half way through you may not see anything back from it, or might be asked to pay off the remaining premium in one go.

London, I'd be thinking of trying it on a bicycle first to see if I could hack it.

I was thinking about working 20-25 hours a week.
I'm hoping that maybe I will be able to get an insurance just for 1 month (£50) and see how it goes.
Is there a chance that I can start working with a standard 3rd part only insurance to see if I like the job and pay for the courier insurance after working couple of days?

You can do it, but Dibble will take a dim view if you get caught, because apparently the State is the arbiter of private insurance contracts now. Mad

I very much doubt that you'll get any 1-month policy for under 3 figures, but it can't hurt to ask.
