I'm stuck in what can only be described as a first world problem. I'm torn between a D675 and an R1 and I know the 600 vs 1000cc topic has been covered to death but I'm still no closer to a decision.

So I should start by saying I'm 21, been riding for 5 years continuously, all year all weather biker so I've got a lot of miles under my belt. Done the ridiculous new licence and currently in process of becoming an advanced rider so absolutely not a squid.

I love smashing corners and a 675 would be better for that as I've read many times but surely an R1 is still more than capable? Ive seen the argument about not being able to use a bike to "its full potential" which is something that doesn't bother me as most likely I'm not really going to be able to get the absolute best out of either of them for what I use a bike for. Top speed doesn't bother me I'm all about the torque and not really into having to trash the balls of a bike to get it to shift, and that's where an r1 would shine but I've heard 3cyl torque is pretty tastey too. I'm still gunna ride it to work, track day and just general every day use.

Price wise, I'm looking at 06 plates for both bikes and they are fairly similar, insurance will be more on the R as I've looked but not stupid amounts.

Cheers guys

As the saying goes - there's no substitute for cubes Wink

If it was my choice the R1 would be the only contender.

Both good bikes, It would have to be an under seat D675 for me, or else a 98-03 R1. Newer R1's before the nice sounding CP1 seem a bit lost in the sea of 1000's to my mind, and I'd prefer an older one with more attitude I think.

I think the mid-late 00's R1's don't stand out massively, and id even rather have a TT legends liveried Blade the one with the ugly flat face I think.

I've no experience of an R1 but I'd imagine it would be a tad roomier than the Daytona but looks wise, the latter wins.

Mmmmm..... 2002 R1 in silver.

Other than that, 675 would be my choice.

Go get some test rides and then buy whichever one you like best weighed up against which you can find the best deal on.

Why just those two?

And you want torque over top speed, but are looking at fully faired bikes?

Why not the SV1000 or FZ1 which both make the same torque (give or take) as the R1? The reasons why you wouldn't want them might help to inform the decision between the Daytona or R1.

I'm into sport bikes that's why just these two, did consider a sv1 but looking for something bit more focused. I say torque, but acceleration is what I mean more, hense why not looking at Harleys for crazy torque

So why only the R1 and 675 out of all the 600cc and 1000cc sports bikes?

Those are just the ones I like. Nothing against the other 600s and 1ks

It's good to be specific sometimes though and particular about your short lists.

But black/gold 675 with a nice underseat pipe FTW!

675, if it's not got enough grunt, downgear. Lighter, probably appreciably better handling and looks better IMO.

If it was me, i'd go for the R1 just to see what all the hype was about. Tbh though whatever you get, you will be able to sell it on if it doesn't suit your needs. Keep us informed.

Wow, so many posts in a what bike thread and not a single mention of "Y U no buy K6 Gixxer Thou?"

BCF, are you slipping, or has the Crowned Prince of sports bike awesomeness fallen from grace?

Anyway, R1 all day long. Don't understand why a 123 bhp, 53 lb/ft 675 is even an option when up against an R1.

Matt B, is there something special about the K6 thou? This is a genuine question by the way!

Yes. It was just the best of its time. It is still argued to be the best of all modern litre bikes.

I'd have one over an R1 if I had the choice, the prices they command have caught with the status of the bike...

I've ridden one, I'd love one for myself.... prices are just so excessive, you can buy the more wild ZX10R for less.
