So if you liked the idea of the MSX125 or Grom but wanted something older and less expensive, what else offers the same fun for nipping around town?

I had a 125 supermoto which was great fun but 2 stroke. They do 4 stroke equivalents but what else offers similar riding fun?

KSR110 is the only bike I can think of that's close to the MSX:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/kawasaki-ksr-110-/121973611075?hash=item1c66319a43:g:hpYAAOSwiYFXJi1F

Dunno how much they normally go for, I believe they're fairly rare imports.

Another quirky bike that's small/light's the Sachs Madass 125. IIRC they're the same weight/power as the MSX, only thing's they're very easy to steal.

similar money for a Dax or you could get a Chinese copy. seen a few MSX's below £1500 but you have to have cash in your hand and your engine running as they sell almost immediately.

have you joined any of the msx groups on facebook? that will be your best bet

I didn't think the UK was getting it, which seemed surprising given MSX sales.

What's also puzzling is why none of the Chinese importers have come up with a copybike yet.

There are some small-wheel bikes available though:

WK Tomcat is under a grand OTR, new.

Skyteam also do a range of monkeys and compacts. G will be happy to hear that they're considerably lighter than the MSX.

PBR125

Cobra 125

And probably unrelated, but I can't help but pimp the really rather lovely Ace 125 cafe.

Probably not very available or common or cheap here, but the Kawasaki KSR 80 would be the MSX rival that I want and if I could find one localish I'd snap it up.

12bhp liquid cooled version of the AR80 in a light pit bike for the road, what's not to love?

If sold in U.K., D-Tracker 125 (klx125 with 14 inch tyres) may be one choice. It has 5 speed gearbox not like msx125 or z125.

Usual answer; road legal pit bike.

Same sort of engine, a good bit less weight.

Probably more likely to be nicked.

I'd get a big chain with either!

I'd take the 125 2 stroke for fun on the roads.

Was also thinking of road legal pit bikes.

Is it just an accepted thing that there are very few non-chinese pit bikes?

£1400 seems to be the upper limit on price brand new and as little as £900. Probaly less if you shopped about.

Yeah I'd kind of got to the same conclusion, but I doubt you're getting much economy out of one!

I hadnt realised the Grom had got that cheap tbh, at £1500 it's not worth doing anything else really.

I've got a big bike, but for some reason the idea appeals, not sure why.

Hmm, yes, comparing asking prices against eBay selling prices shows that they aren't commanding the premium that they used to.

Long term longevity is still a bit of a question mark, but if it's hit-it-and-quit-it, why not?

My favourite bikes for fun tend to be light weight and 30-80hp.

Around a go kart track the 140/160 pit bikes are good fun despite being low on power - they are at least pretty light weight.

On the road, I generally find small capacity 4 strokes pretty boring - a 125-200 2 stroke tends to have a bit more pep for the more open road where I'm trying to push traction.

A CG125 with a pirate flag (the fluttered backwards over 50mph) re-established my love of motorbicycles many moons ago Thumbs Up

The 2013/14 ones were £2600 new. I paid £2400 for mine (brand new) by walking into the dealer with a wedge of twentys.

I've seen a few go on the MSX FB group for £1500, but they do go quickly at that price.
