What are the chances of me getting my bike taxed today?

Just resurrected the KLE500. It's been parked up for 7 or 8 years neither SORN-ed or taxed. There were some demands for money with menaces shortly after it was parked up but I gave them an emphatic and confident "Take me to court or go fuck yourself.", it being over 6 months from the date of the offence by that point. Heard no more about it.

I moved house 4 years ago and registered the change of address on the V5 so I have a current, new-style V5.

Got an MOT yesterday and am in the process of getting insurance for it (system is down, need to call back in 15 minutes).

As an exercise, I decided to try taxing it before the insurance to see what would happen in the event I bought a new bike and rode it home.

Fallen at the first hurdle. They can't find the bike on their system when I enter the registration and document reference off the V5.

I'm heading off into the post office shortly armed with the full V5, a certificate of motor insurance and an MOT certificate.

How do you rate my chances of getting it taxed?

EDIT: Just checked. The MOT history shows up when you check. So part of the database knows the bike exists.

I presume they give you some sort of receipt to show you've paid your tax?

If the bike is not showing up on the DVLA database, which as far as I'm aware is what the ANPR systems use, I'm concerned a policeman may decide he's going to take it off me.

Just tried again and it's let me tax it this time.

The bike is not yet insured.

I had a similar problem with my Landrover, hardly ever drive it, forgot about the tax which was now three months expired, no reminder from DVLA. Luckily I managed to find a copy of the V5, so off to the Post Office, they scan the bar code from the V5, paid my £0.00 (made sure I got a receipt for the vast sum of money) and all's good.
If in doubt make the Post Office your first port of call.

I hate these 'happy ending taxing un-sorned/registered vehicle' threads.

I have no happy endings when faced with DVLA hurdles.
