I travel most weekends, carrying roughly 30L of luggage.

There is nothing on the tail end of GSXR to secure my roll top to, so I'm currently making do with a large backpack. Obviously this is not ideal on long journeys.

So any suggestions for luggage systems on a sportbike?

Kriega? Ventura?

I have the Kriega 20+10 pack which I used for a week in Scotland. Absolutely brilliant design, although you pay for it. I chose to use 20L for the majority of my stuff, and the 10L to carry waterproofs and small things I didn't mind getting damp from used waterproofs. They survived a week of torrential downpours without any leak whatsoever, and I was that impressed I've recently bought the R30 backpack for general use and my spain trip later this year.

I had Ventura stuff on my STR, Did the job well enough and transformed into an (ugly) grab rail when I wasn't using it.

Good quality gear but not cheap.

Kriega stuff is really good. I've got a US20 which is enough for most short trips on its own, for longer stuff I tend to need a tankbag as well. Probably worth buying a US30 if you can stretch to it.

Lock-ring tank bag?
I have an sw motech one on my cbf. Clicks on and off in seconds, doesn't scratch the paint as it doesn't touch the tank, and are surprisingly solid.
Givi do a 25ltr one (although I've no experience of the givi ones)

I just purchased a Givi Tank bag (with the petrol cap fixture) and soft panniers for my s1000rr. I'll be taking a tent and ground sheet too so the Givi recommended option sits too high for my liking. I have fabridoodled a frame from some flat bar I had to go around the rear tyre area so I could fit panniers that hang on the sides. Since sports bikes have nothing much near the rear tyre bags will foul the tyre.

I really don't want a tank bag. They just look cumbersome and don't appeal to me.

The Ventura system is a great idea. I just done understand why it has to look so ugly!

I've heard, and seen, the Kriega bags rotating laterally on bikes with small pillion seats. Has anyone else encountered this, or know a way of controlling/avoiding it?

Mine did do that a little to start with, although I think it was probably because I didn't tighten it down enough more than anything.

I initally used the ''recommended'' fitting method of installing the tab-straps onto the frame under the seat and then putting the metal hooks of the clip-straps through the tabs, but it did still leave a bit of movement.

I now just interlink the silver metal hooks in pairs under the seat and don't use the tabs at all. Seems to secure it better and lets the straps tighten down a lot more.

A bit of anti-slip mat underneath might be enough to stop it either way, but i've not needed to use it with the above method.

Properly fitted a Kriega will not rotate. US30 is the one to go for.

Have to say, I can't see how they can rotate if properly secured.

Kriega it is. Though I may opt for 20L + 10L combination.

Can't find any other voucher codes at the moment - there was a 10% off one with thebikeinsurer quotes a while back but I think its stopped, but theres still 5% cashback through quidco if you decide to get them through getgeared.co.uk.

Thanks Matt Thumbs Up

I believe The Bike Insurer are offering 15% discount at Get Geared with all new insurance quotes.

Failing that, 44 Teeth are able to provide 10% discount on Kriega.

Yep kriega is the way to go, if you tighten them down hard (as they should be) they don't move at all.

Watch out for the size of the US30 though, it's a big bastard - you'll need a big pillion seat for it to sit properly and not overhang. A US20 will fit on anything though, it's perfect for most sportbikes. Then you can strap a US10 on top or 2x US10's on the sides for 40l worth or space.

I'll be using a US30 and 2x US20's for my summer Euro touring with camping kit in the US30. I also have an R30 that gets used every day for commuting, it takes the abuse with ease.

I quite like the look of these, and they're not too expensive. I would rarely use panniers, only for the odd weekend away, so couldn't justify dealer model specific ones. So these look ideal.
