Couple of days ago I was cleaning the chain on the Ninja and a group of teenagers walk past and one of them comment "that's a f**kin' bel'ur man" and another says to me "ah'm coming back the night wae the bolt cutters".... I say something along the lines of "good luck, the seats wired to the coil"...... after which they carry on walking saying about it being a joke etc.

Today I go to the lockup and the handle had been pulled apart.... this is similar to the handle:

The handle is 2 separate parts and it was the outer casing that had been pulled open..... is it possible to bypass the lock by removing the handle on these locks?

I've spoken to the concierge about it and they've said they'll keep the camera pointed at the lockups and I've chained the bikes together.

But am I just being paranoid.... is it possible that someone bumped against the handle and separated it?

Edit: Was assuming its an up-n-over garage lock up? Useless if not .

Is it possible you could always keep it chained to something? (Preferably ground anchored)
If your chain is substantial enough its unlikely some radgey scum is getting away with your bike easy. (although someone with slightly more brains might.)

They're honest enough about which size chains can be used for what.
General rule of thumb if its a static location, go for one of the 16mm or 19mm link jobbies if you can.
The average smackhead doesn't have the strength to hand bolt crop a 19mm with any size croppers.

Would that there was available -- working along the same lines as a Jack-in-the-box -- 'The Patented Garage Defender', that being the grown-up version of One Tough Little Son-of-a-Bitch.

I don't think that's paranoia, that's preparation. I'm amazed they didn't get in.

I went for Enfield locks because they're not as obvious as a Garage Defender. You'll want to have a good thick frame to bolt them into and you will need power tools and a selection of large bits to fit them.

I don't like washing my bits in public.

I have more than one bike in the garage and it's just too much bait for the Regional Scrotatti to miss.
Whenever I do anything in the garage I try to remember to hoi the tarp over the bikes. I leave junk in front as a sort of camouflage too.

It probably is paranoia but I'm easy with it.

My garage door is remote operated motorised up & over. It is impossible to force open using the handle or pushing the latches in. I fitted a special device (cannot find the link) to the remote operating mechanism which dead locks the door unless opened from the inside by the motor control or the release mechanism. You could open using a Sherman tank or something maybe.
I have a steel door at the back where the widin wan was more vulnerable.

My weak link now is the shit roofing sheets. i have considered slate as an upgrade some day.
