How much do scrappies pay mowadays, I mean the bona-fide metal yards.
I've got five old household radiators, an iron fire surround and a few other odd bits to get rid of. Is it worth the petrol to take them to a metal yard?

It must be next to nothing, we used to keep the copper and brass but leave all the old rads and boilers in our yard. They'd always be gone by the next morning.
Prices have gone down so much they aren't even worth stealing anymore.

Light iron has hit the floor this year, made all the usual mongers branch out into bodging driveways because a day's 'work' only nets them £50 even if they steal the fuel they use.

It's just about climbed high enough to bring them back out of the woodwork again now.

Scraps not worth much atall now, still doesn't stop the foreign pikey's coming round though. The local battery man is paying 5 quid a car battery though which isn't bad when you have a few stacked up.

If the fireplace is one of those old types, worth selling to reclamation yard or similar?

Feltons in Preston made a killing selling all that old shite.

Just tried to scrap my old Fiat Seicento, put the details into a scrap car website found 5 places that would take it but i had to deliver to all of them meant a 30-55 mile drive
Prices went £45 £40 £25 for 3 of them the other 2 that were the nearest ones wanted me to pay them either £35 or £25 for taking it.

Sold it on Facebook as (needs a little work) for £50 in the end.

I was quoted £20 a ton for mixed crap scrap. It is staying where it is as the collection slowly increases.

How much insurance would you have gotten if it were, say, to be found burnt out in a field?
