Hi all
Looking for recommendations for which bike to buy.
I have a full license and have previously only ridden a cg125 and a zxr400. I didn't like the zxr due to the forward riding position.
I am quite short 5'5 and inside leg is 28/29 inch, also don't have the strongest upper body!
I'm looking for a bike 250-650cc which is upright, light and easy for a beginner. Ideally get one foot flat.
I have done some research and considering the following g models, but want to narrow it down a bit more, so would like any advice on the following. I like the idea of a twin engine rather than inline four.
-inazuma 250; modern, looks good, under 2k
-gs500; bit old but twin and easy for beginner?
-gpz500; old but narrow and fun
-Bonneville; low seat
-sv650/gladius; easy for beginner but not sure I like the looks
-xj6; boring but reliable?
-er6; felt a bit big when I sat on one

I have ruled out:
-hornet, fazer, bandit; inline fours
-er5,cb500; don't like the looks

Thanks for any recommendations, as I said the key is something light and low to sit on and easy to ride. Not bothered about speed, be happy with a 250s performance I think.

Thanks

Although i see youve already ruled out the bandit, i recently passed my test and was looking for my first big bike, my dad had a bandit spare and said it would be ideal to get used to, im short aswell at 5ft7, but he managed to lower the back spring so i can just about put both feet on the floor. Also the ride position isnt too far forward, makes it a comfy ride for me anyhow. Id go sit on a few and see how you feel on them, i guess everyone will be better matched to different bikes. Just my two pennieth worth Thumbs Up

I've ridden the Inazuma I really liked it, it was a shock! I'm 6'5" and hired one and took it for a blast round Fuerteventura with my missus on the back. It had no trouble hacking through the mountains with my lardy arse and my missus dainty one on it. I've had a GS500 and I'd take the Inazuma over it any day.

Out of all those you'll probably get the best example of the Inazuma, it will also be the cheapest to fix should things go wrong. It's the sensible choice IMO, suzuki also offer 0% over 4 years which makes it ridiculously easy to get a new one.

If you aren't bothered about going fast the Bonnie would be best good for general riding and posing. However it won't greatly outperform the Inazuma and will be a lot heavier, but it is better looking bike with more street cred.

Yamaha MT03? (maybe a bit too unwieldy to get back into biking)
KTM 690 Duke? (perhaps a bit too perched over the front)
KTM 390 Duke (might be a bit too sporty position wise)
Ducati Monster? (possibly not as upright as you'd like)
Yamaha SR400? (per chance a little underpowered)
Aprilia Shiver 750 GT? (potentially a good choice )

You probably know this already, but just in case you've forgotten, remember to wear proper bike boots when you sit on these bikes. Smile It makes a big difference to how secure and confident you feel. And if you get boots with a big heel you won't need such a low seat.

Here are the Daytona Urban Master 2 GTX, £273.

Then I'm going to surprise myself and agree with considering the Inazuma as a viable option.

Sure, it's a cheap Chinese made bike, but it won't come with 15+ years of bodges and neglect like a GPZ500.

Would your budget stretch to one of the new CB500s?

Good call Thumbs Up

The newer CB500F can be found a couple of years old, with low miles for around £3k.

If you're in Olney, I'm not far away. You're welcome to sit on my CBR600F. I'm an oompa loompa too at 5ft 6 Cool

It's one of the more upright sports bikes, I also have 20mm bar risers to increase that further.

Don't rule out inline fours
