Calipers have no spring plate for pads

Hi, my track bike doesn't have the spring loaded covers that normally go on the top of the calipers to push the brake pads downwards. I've done a few trackdays on it and haven't noticed any difference than normal brakes that have them.

Will a previous owner have removed these for any particular reason? Is it worth buying some for the sake of it, or just leave them?

I suspect it's mainly there to stop them jiggling about which 'might' cause a bit more wear or even odd noises on a road bike.
I've often wondered if there was any need for it.

They tend not to use them on race callipers.

I had to fit some to my pretec callipers for road use.

All they do is stop the pads rattling. It's a pain in the arse if you're on the road but you'll not notice on the track.

Don't have them on my race bike either supposed to help cooling aswell with the air flow helping cut down on brake fade

Thanks everyone, I asked on facebook too and that was the consensus - loads of people run without them apparently.

I haven't even heard them rattle once other than when wheeling it around the garage.
