Just had a test ride of an MT09. They offered me a good trade in price on my NC750x, and I might go and sign on the dotted line next month, as I'm off to Germany on the NC later this month

Pros.
Feels small and light
Really smooth at 30 and 40 round town then..
BAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Nekkid bike lets you know you're doing many mph when flat out
7 1/2k ponds

Cons
Suspension shit on bumpy roads
Bongy Clocks

Is there anything for about the same amount of ponds (about £100 a month on a pcp) that I should be looking at?

There's loads for £100 a month on PCP but the bit that makes the biggest difference is your initial deposit and the rate of finance they're going to bum you for.

What's the overall cost on the (presumably) 3 years you'd have the 09 for?

I owe 2 1/2 on the NC, and they offered me 4 1/2 for it, which is a good price compared to book (3.9)

I may not go for the Yamaha finance deal, as the APR is high, may just go to my bank, and borrow the 5 1/2.

I've got no plans to keep it past 3 years, so very few shits are given about residual payments etc.

You might find their offer changes drastically if you don't use Yamaha's PCP deal.

In that case you could still take their finance and pay it off in the cooling off period using your bank loan, if you can get both.

For extra lulz, agree to take their usurious gap insurance to get a lower price, then sack that off as well. Wink

Suspension can be sorted for not inordinate sums of money.

I think MCT do/did £100 consultations where they set the bike up for you if you are an average sized person this will probably be fine. If you are rather big or rather small they can change springs/dampers etc. I reckon it's about £500 for them to rebuild the standard equipment with bits fully tailored to you.

I'm 5'10 and 13stone. Sort of middle of the road-ish. It seemed a bit bouncy and under-damped to my unknowledgeable suspension knowledge

Street Triple is a better bike, and probably better for depreciation too.

But if you like the Yamaha, then why not stretch to the XSR900? So much better looking, and a bit sportier. Again, probably better on depreciation.

If you do go with the MT-09, don't pay list price. The local dealer was selling them at £1k off list price last year, and there offers at even less than that. For example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-MT09-NON-ABS-/182054364339?hash=item2a634924b3:g:M-MAAOSwPc9W1w9w

I actually really like those - have considered buying one myself.

I don't think the stripple really competes to be honest. Certainly not price wise.

Lower cc so less torque and power and although the suspension maybe be better (certainly on the r), but you could have ohlins front and rear on the mt09 for the price of am STR.

Just go for it mate. I've heard nothing but good reviews of the MT09. It looks like a right hoot and the deal sounds reasonable.

True, best stick to bendy roads Smile

As you've test rode the MT09, why not try a Striple for comparison?
As others have said, the MT09's "failings" can be sorted for less money than an STR, so it's probably the best option. But if I was in the market, I'd definitely try both before committing.
