The Bonneville is no more, I guess.

So what's new? Well, the engine is liquid cooled now and Triumph claims the MPG improved by 36 % which should give you range of 250 km per tank (which is 12L now, instead of 16L on the Bonneville) The test rider in this test could achieve 4 Litres per 100 km, which should be about 71 MPG. The clock/gauge is also new and now features a on board computer capable of displaying gear position indicator, fuel gauge, range on remaining fuel, average and instantaneous fuel consumption, hours, daily and total odometer.

Control functions, including switching off the TCS is done with the "i" button on the left handlebar (you cycle through the options/informations). The display is also prepared for connection of the optional equipment: heated grips and a tyre pressure control system.

The frame is new, rear shocks have adjustable preload, the front suspension is not adjustable. The front wheel is 18 inch, the rear wheel 17, equiped with Pirelli Phantom tyres. Single disc brakes on both wheels (310/255mm) with the same twin piston floating Nissin calipers, with ABS.

Engine: liquid cooled, parallel twin cylinder, four stroke
Displacement: 900 ccm
Power output: 40.5 kW @ 5900 rpm
Torque: 80Nm @ 3230rpm
Head: OHC, 8 valves, DFi
Gearbox: 5 speed, with anti-hopping clutch
Weight (dry): 198 kg

I think it's showing that you have enough underseat storage for a fag paper or similar very thin things because it's crammed with parts bin electricals.

On a positive note, the tank is hinged which I like.

How does it get such good economy? Powerwise it's a CB500 with almost double the capacity and what 40kg heavier?

Edit:-

Thinking about it my Dads TR6R produces 44bhp (on paper) and will return 70mpg with no trouble. 50 years and all they could get is 10bhp with 250 more cc Laughing

I've seen a few reviews praising the shit out of this however on paper it is isn't that impressive.

Street twin has no Tacho. Why? This was the question I had at first.
After watching reviews on youtube, I noticed its engine has more bottom rich torque like cruiser, and it was the reason.
So no. I prefer old T100 to new street twin. I liked old T100 so much when I rented in 2005(It was so much better than my W650 in everything!!!). New T100 is too pricey for me. But not this Street twin for its engine character.

It's okay, but looks a bit cheap. I know Triumph is supposed to be a premium brand, but that looks not much better than a Mash 400. How much is it?
The Royal Enfield (power aside) looks to be the premium retro bike in comparison and can be almost excused it's faults for remaining loyal to itself.

Why take 4 litres off the tank capacity? Just stupid. I agree a tacho would be nice too, nice to see where it's torquey.

Having the start switch as part of the kill switch should end a few generations of people wondering why their bike won't start. Laughing Thumbs Up

The Royal Enfield is not a retro bike. It is an old bike that is still built. There is quite a difference. It's OK if you like playing with engines.

The Triumph is a retro bike - modern but looks older, same as the WR.

Exactly. When I had the GPz550, the start button was a part of the kill switch and I was a one happy rider. Then I got a CB-1 with, more recent aproach, having the start button and killswitch separate.
My first solo ride on it was a blast. I shut the engine, went to pick up something at tesco's, then got back to the bike, pressed the start button and all I got was spining starter and no ignition.

So I was push starting it about 20 minutes, then called a mate to ask what could it be, then found out the kill switch was in the off possition. Embarassed

Never had the same problem ever again. It's just like the hand brake in a car. The first time solo driving a car, I couldn't just take off, 6 atempts, stalling the engine every single time, then I saw some red stuff glowing on the dash, and figured out the hand brake was engaged. Embarassed

A problem easily avoided if you turn the engine off using the ignition key.

Or the decompressor / valve lifter.

Another Royal Enfield innovation that Triumph will doubtless steal. Razz
