What's the point in joining BMF other than a sense of belonging and possibly slighly cheaper insurance?

In order to at least make an attempt to preserve our right to ride bikes, with as little molestation from the government as possible, and to contribute to heading off as much ill informed, ill researched and discriminatory legislation as possible before it becomes a problem. Something that MAG and BMF have been doing successfully for years, but without funds raised through membership and events the effectiveness of such lobbying in reduced.

More members = more money = more successful lobbying = better biking. Thumbs Up

Sorry, can't do this two days in a row. Have a read of this thread from yesterday where we managed to persuade two to join up.

Cheers, Sadie

With riders rights groups like MAG and the BMF you get out of them what you put into them.

If you want to pay your £20 and sit back feeling smug and warm fine, your funds are helping others fight for your rights. If however you get out there and become actively involved you will not only meet a lot of interesting and friendly people, you will also become more involved and have a better understanding of the issues that we are fighting against.

It may seem like a thankless task at the time, but the knowledge that YOU in someway have helped all bikers fight the powers-that-be and won can be one of the high points. MAG/BMF need your money, but they also need your support to be effective lobby groups. This is what makes you a member, rather than simply a subscriber.

Go out and join one/both now. You know it makes sense. Very Happy

Hey, I'm not having this!! If I got a hard time give him a hard time!! Laughing

Mr Chips, if your not interested then don't bother. I wasn't interested either but after a 'few' things where pointed out to me I felt maybe better to join up to at least one of the groups. Ok, I still feel many issues haven't affected me but kickstart did point out I ride a 100bhp bike and don't need leg protectors, something I wouldn't be doing if these groups didn't take a stand against the government.

Sadie and others put across some very valid points even though I was being an awkward customer but some of the BCF members feel strongly regarding BMF and MAG and have active involvement.

Sadie is there a big following here in Northern Ireland where bikes are more widely accepted than in the mainland? We have events such as road racing, rallys where the whole street comes out to wave at you passing by and so on. Seems like they are a lot more tollerant to biking here.

Sorry, honey, I don't quite know what you're asking. Can you clarify?

BTW (and just to keep CC123 happy!) join the BMF or MAG or I'll knock you over the head with a mallet! Laughing

OK, CC?

basically he means, are the authorities more strict when it comes to motorcycles in the mainland of the uk than northern ireland? as in northern ireland they have bike events and people seem to like it.

i will be joining mag when i get my little bike. the site seems nicely done.

I know that MAG and the BMF in Northern Ireland are very active, and the laws are a wee bit different in some cases, but as a fan of anything Irish (put it down to my nationality Rolling Eyes ), I think that people (including the police) are just a little bit more laid back about stuff that doesn't really matter.

If you're interested in contacting the BMF in NI, the contact details are below:

BMF Region 10 (Northern Ireland)

Chairman - Howard Anderson
Avalon
25 Barrack Hill,
Drummeath
Banbridge
Co Down BT 32 4HE
Tel 028406 27896

Treasurer - Tony Bloomfield
138 Balagh Road
Fivemile Town
Co Tyrone BT75 0QP
Tel 02889 521879
E-mail tony@aughinlark.freeserve.co.uk

I'm sure that Robin will be happy to give you the details for MAG Northern Ireland.

Thumbs Up
