I did a couple of day trips up there recently, which only whetted my appetite for more, so on spotting a good weather forecast for a few days, I quickly booked three B&Bs, not too far apart, to make the most of it. As well as revisiting some places I've been before, albeit some years ago now, I had a couple more on the tick list to explore for the first time.
So, on Sunday, my route was:
Day 1
I had planned all along to do Glen Douglas over to Loch Long, but for some reason, I completely forgot about the turn off and blasted all the way along Loch Lomond before realising 
But that's ok, no bad thing to have to do that bit twice! So turned back and got back on the planned route.
Unfortunately, although warm and dry, it was very hazy, so shots for this day are far from perfect.
The Cobbler and The Saddle from Glen Douglas:

Glen Douglas being one of those gnarly little mountain routes. Down by Loch Long, The Cobbler has to be one of the most peculiar looking mountains anywhere:

Then up to the Rest and be Thankful for a cuppa stop:

The road down by Loch Fyne to Lochgilphead is a corker; a good taster of things to come.
Then it was up by Loch Awe to try to get better shots than I already had of Ben Cruachan from that side. But the haziness and general light conditions weren't on my side, so will have to try again sometime:

This is a road you only do for the scenery. A proper little goat track with a totally fecked surface. Last time I did it, I almost got splatted on the front of a big lorry carrying a massive pile of logs, causing me to almost produce a bit of a log of my own. You daren't brake too hard on a road like this for fear of losing it on all the loose gravel and shit, so fortunately he managed to do enough braking for both of us. No repeats this time, thankfully.
At the north end of the loch is Kilchurn Castle:

And then took another wrong turn and ended up back at Inverary, so had to turn around and retrace my steps again!  Getting late by this time too, but stuck to my guns and did another feckin goat track along Glen Orchy. This one I wouldn't bother with for the road or the scenery  Still, ticked off the list.
And that brings you out at Bridge of Orchy and so up through Glen Coe, which I won't bore you with again, to Fort William and the first overnight stop. I think it was 352 miles covered on this day.
I'll do this in a couple of instalments as it takes so feckin long on photobucket. The pics improve somewhat I think with clearer conditions on the next two days.

I think you should be locked up for blatantly whoring these spectacular places and images of quiet awesome wet dream biking roads in our faces though! 
Some of us have spent all day down holes and working on dusty slimy wet muddy building sites, next to noisy plant machinery, and cutting pipes and slabs while getting covered in crap.  |

After settling in at the hotel, had a quick stroll around Fort William, fish and chips, and a walk along the promenade of Loch Linnhe:

Where I did see my first Otter in the wild, which surprised me, as the Fort William side of the loch is not the wildest place imaginable, being right next to the main road.
Monday morning and I would be exploring the Sunart and Moidart regions, new to me. The route:
Day 2, Morning Ride
A blast along Loch Eil, before turning off the main route (which goes to Mallaig), and down the other side of Eil, on a beautiful, warm, still morning:

On the opposite side of Loch Linnhe to FW, you come to a beautiful spot, Invercaddle Bay. Silent, peaceful, the views from the bridge there across to FW and Ben Nevis are fantastic. If I was going to see wildlife anywhere, I would have expected it to be here:

The Sunart/Moidart route is a real mix as far as the road itself is concerned. Some parts are of the goat track variety, although never as bad as the Glen Orchy road of the day before, some are great bits of tarmac that wind up, down and around, and some stretches are kind of in between the two. A really enjoyable loop to do.

Was up there the weekend before last - Day 1 Preston to Ayr via western lakes, Day 2 Ayr to Fort William along the coast via Lochgilphead and Oban, Day 3 Fort W. to Inverness via Apple Cross Pass and Ullapool, Day 4 Inverness to Stirling over the Cairngorms via Tomintoul and Braemar.
Unfortunately the weather was somewhat hit n miss so photo's were a bit disappointing , although the vids on the nicer days suggest there was plenty of nice tarmac up there - not for public consumption tho lol

Is that the track down past the White Hotel place, and follows alongside the River Orchy track?
I've been down there, looks a great spot for wild camping!

I've been up this way a couple of times before, but it's always a pleasure to do it again, though I try to look at one or two places I haven't been before each time. As far as photography goes, there are guys on this forum who are much better at it than I am, but I still enjoy it, and mountainous regions look different every time with the changing light. And it's very different when you're on holiday, and just doing it for the pure pleasure. Bit of sunshine helps too!
Hopefully, this might give others thinking of heading up a few ideas of where to go 
So now I headed for the Isle of Skye, very much unfinished business for me as I never had time on my two previous trips to get far on the island.

The B&B at Kyleakin wasn't great. Had a converted loft room which was like an oven, and the small window couldn't be opened for ventilation, so after a freshen up, I went for a bite to eat and then buggered off out on the bike for the evening.

That's it. I was thinking as I went along it would be ideal for wild camping (given immunity to midgies - was a bit too early in the season for them just now apparently though). There were a few people here and there along the river with tents or camper vans, settled in for the night.

Just a couple of comments. The road from Mallaig through Glen Finnan was a definite "best of" for the trip 
Several times on this trip I got to thinking how good the Fazer is It just handles everything in it's stride, from gravelly goat tracks to fast sweeping A roads, carrying luggage (although I wasn't very heavily loaded on this occasion) and leaving me feeling ready for more on each new day.
I love my Fazer

I agree, Year before last I did an 8day scottish roadtrip in the wifes car (long story) and vowed to return with a bike next time. Trouble is wifey won't tour in the traditional sense, so next time I'll take the van with the bike in the back. Mind you the roads where I am now in Croatia look great for biking too. Almost hired one here but the weather has dramatically deteriorated in the last couple of days. Ended up with a Suzuki splash to pootle about in instead...

So the evening ride on arrival on Skye was a simple there-and-back trip:
Day 2, Evening Ride
Another rough little mountain route, up and down and around, but some good views. Best of all was the view at the end of the road of the Black Cuillin:

On day 3, I really had a bit too much planned. I was going to do a large circuit of Skye, but stopping constantly for the views really ate into the time available. Ullapool was the destination for that evening, via the Applecross coastal route, Torridon etc. So I had to cut the Skye route short a bit (so it's still unfinished business Oh well, good excuse to go again sometime!). So I just did this, on recommendation from a local:
Day 3, Morning Ride
The first bit takes you on the main road to views of the Red Cuillin and Sgurr nan Gillean:

Not at all. The Striple is a hoot, but it's no good for me for long trips. Too many aches and pains! The Fazer is a comfortable mile muncher, and I always knew I would prefer it for touring. Striple for local tearing it up.

So now it was gone 2pm, and I still had many miles to cover , and not on fast roads.
Day 3, Afternoon Ride
I had wanted to go via Gairloch, but just didn't have time to do that much of the coastal road, so cut it a bit short by heading for Achnasheen and the main road up to Ullapool.

Due to the lateness, this road seemed to go on forever before I finally got to something a bit more open where I could make good time, but all came good. The hotel at Ullapool, with it's long, winding corridors, reminded me of The Overlook from Stephen King's "The Shining"
And whilst in Ullapool, I bumped into a member of the Fazer Owners Forum, and we had a good natter. Small world an' all that!
Next day, it was to have been a run down via the Cairngorms, but although starting in clear, warm sunshine, as I got near to Inverness, it got colder and cloudier, so decided to cut it short(ish) once again and blatted along Loch Ness, back down to Fort William and home - was back to sunshine towards the west too.
