Looking at quotes for new bike, obviously Hastings is cheapest...

Would rather pay a bit more for less shit service in the event of an accident. Bennetts and BikeSure are offering similar cover for similar prices on the comparison sites - what about some of the 'specialist' ones like Carole Nash or MCN? Or AA/RAC??

Have googled but would need at least a year to read all the horror stories Confused

MCE are shit, alas I still use them as they're half the price of the next cheapest. I'd definitely avoid even if it meant paying a bit more.

MCN? Are we talking about MCE? If so I concur, they're crap, but I'm back with them cos cheap Sad

All insurers are ar$eholes, but MCE still manage to be the biggest, so for similar quotes I'd definitely avoid them. Haven't heard great things about CN either, Hastings seemed ok when I was with them, but someone on here had his bike sold by them when he was lying in a coma.

tl;dr anyone but MCE Smile

You are never going to know until you claim so just go with the cheapest that covers what you want and plan on NOT claiming.

Can confirm Hastings are shit, when I tried to change my policy from YBR to Fazer they made it as awkward as possible and took weeks to do it, demanding copies of my licence etc and stacking on every fee they could think of. Cant wait for renewal to change to someone else.

Admiral are pretty good, but when my year was up they jacked the price up loads and refused to even bother trying to price match other insurers, so went with the cheapest and hope to not make a claim!

I've been with bikesure numerous times, run by Adrian Flux who are well regarded in the car / modding scene.

They seem really helpful and keep things simple, you get to hear English people when you call too. Thumbs Up

Can't comment on the claims side of things though. Thumbs Up

I had excellent service from C.Nash when I wrote off my Fazer. Paid quickly and top price.

Was going to say pretty much the same.

They're reasonable people to talk to, unlike some I've dealt with.

Stayed with 'em for the last few years myself.

Do have to poke 'em sometimes come renewal though.. I paid about £40-50 less this year than what they quoted me for renewal

Choose a level of cover and go with the cheapest quote. There's no point investing more than you need to into an unavoidable charge because you're not buying a service from someone who has your best interest at heart, insurance companies are good at taking your money and that's it.

Weigh up before taking any quote out if declaring a spill should you have one is really worthwhile doing so for five future years.

Er... dunno really. Legal help if I get shunted, money if I spaz myself or my bike, that sort of thing. Following up stuff they've said they'll do without having to be chased up half a dozen times.

BikeSure were bigging up the courtesy bike when I rang them but not too fussed about that.

Pretty much any insurer will be happy to offer you legal cover which just means if you need to claim then it gets handled by their claims management company. That's not good, should you be in a position of needing to claim then you'd be better to go to any firm of half decent real solicitors as opposed to the paralegal claims management company.

You're never going to get money from your own insurance company if you spaz yourself.

Check the small print on all of that. MCE I think offer a grand for the most serious injuries, a courtesy bike up to 125cc for 5 days Rolling Eyes, helmet & leathers cover that's something like £300 with a £100 excess. Their accident assistance was brilliant too:
"I've had a crash and my bikes still at the scene"
"We can't help you with that"

Ebike were great but are now, completely and utterly shit. Avoid at all costs. There is nothing 'e'bike about them.

Hastings were pretty good when I had the front of my previous car smashed off while it was on my drive a couple of years ago.
I've returned to them this year for the bike, pretty much for that reason and the highly favourable price.

everyone of them is a broker. Even the other you have mentioned. Nothing Specialist about any of them.

You pays your money and takes your chance.

Funny, but I have yet to find a insurance broker that auto renews.... Even including Bennetts......

Every one I have used, and I change each year. Sends a letter out stating if you don't contact us, your cover will end XX-XX-XX.
If it says anything else, then simply contact them when you get the renewal advice and say you want to end the policy on the renewal date as you are going elsewhere.

I'd be looking for a modification friendly or comfortable insurer, and then one that allows me to ride multiple bikes and also other peoples bikes too.

If they can do all that, then I might look at other sweetners like free breakdown cover and European cover too.

Many of them stumble hard and hit the gate at the first request though!

Swinton seemed particularly crap the other day.

Some "geezer" on the other end of the phone, using slang, and speaking too quickly. At least four times I had to ask him to repeat what he had said, and speak clearly and slower.

I was insured with a company called "Chaucer Insurance" (via Bennetts) when I had a prang last year.

I really can't fault the service I received either from the insurers or Bennetts. It was very well handled.

By contrast, a few years back my car was written off (while parked) by a third party. Sadly, I had the misfortune to be insured with Admiral who fucked-up pretty much every part of the claim and spent more time trying to shaft me than they did pursuing the person who was actually at fault.

What service(s) did they provide?

Services provided by a claims management company aren't included in that.

They picked the bike up the next day, sent a chap round to take a statement from me the day after (OK, that's probably for their benefit, but hey-ho) and offered a courtesy bike (which I didn't take up).

They returned my bike, fully repaired, within a fortnight and didn't try to bum me come renewal time.

What else do you want from an insurer?

OK, they could have sent a couple of Moto GP brolly dollys round to give me a blow job, but that's probably expecting a bit much. Very Happy
