Just got home from my first ever experience on a geared bike! What an eye opener - cars really do not look! I was on a lovely little bike, a Yamaha Sr125 Smile

Got theory on Tuesday and then booking in for mod 1 training - so exciting!

Crikey, that thing must be round the clocks. And yes, cars don't see us. Ride well out in your lane and be ready to take evasive action, you'll soon get used to it.

And good job on getting on with it, 'tis definitely the season.

It had covered 19k on the dial - but as I have nothing to base an opinion on, to me it was a dream to ride haha!

19,579 miles to be exact. Well, according to the M.O.T that was put through and passed on the second attempt just two days ago after failing for "Front position lamp does not illuminate immediately when switched on (1.1.3a)". Apart from failing on that exact same thing once the only other in its history are three advisories for;

"Wheel corroded but not significantly reducing the original strength (4.2.1a)
frame and rear swing are rusty
rear wheel has corroshion ay berring housinh
"

..seems like the training school know how to look after a bike well. One of the better examples on paper I'd say, although can't say the example I came across was as good, or maybe that was the rider, or both.. yes both.

Smart choice ignoring the tiddler route and trapping yourself in a financial never-ending pitfall and going straight for a license. Keep updated. Thumbs Up

dude congratulations! CBT is good learning experience and hopefully you'll pass your theory first time and get on with learning the big bike stuff. I've just passed my mod 2 test and loving every second being on a bigger bike.
good luck!

Having just passed my test, I am kind of envious. I really enjoyed the lessons! Riding around on a bike outside of my budget (Suzuki 650cc Gladius,) having someone to guide me. The security was nice. Now I've done it all and haven't yet got my big bike, I'm a bit jealous. Stupid, I know, but enjoy it. The lessons were always a huge amount of fun for me.

Any good?

Most likely to be my A test bike so why not gauge opinion ahead of time, save me looking elsewhere or confirm if to use. Main two questions would be a) how's the gearbox low down at slow speed / Module 1 and 2) how's it handle NSL? I only ask because two things that annoyed me during A2 on the GS 500.

I don't have much basis for comparison, to be honest. I stalled maybe twice in all my lessons. Never struggled with slow, walking speeds. Not sure what NSL is though.

The Mod 1 was simple, except for the emergency stop. I snatched at the front brake and thought I was going to go arse over tit. Apparently, it was "controlled" though, so a minor rather than a fail.

Again, I've nothing to compare it to, but I really enjoyed riding it. My only issue was achy hands between my thumb and forefinger. I put that down to the riding position, but it varies for everyone.

NSL = National Speed Limit... A notional figure on the speedo where you should, maybe, roll off the throttle a bit.

D'oh! Thanks for that.

For NSL (getting down with the lingo) it was fine. Didn't do 70 too much, but it got there with ease. It was a bit blowy, but the weather was windy. Again, with nothing to compare it to it's difficult to say.

Nice little antique. I didn't think training centres were still using those. They always look like they're in such good condition. Something eerily 1995 about them.

Congrats to the OP Smile

I used to have a battered old SR125. I loved it. Shame it had to die in the end. Proper old workhorse, though.

That's what we should have to do. However, there's so much in the theory test that's just pulled straight out of their earholes that I'd suggest skipping the Highway Code and rattling through some practice tests / apps instead.

Good luck for the DAS/A2/whatever.

Beginners rarely really appreciate how true your comment is.
They think they'll look cool on their black bike, in their black leathers wearing a black bash hat... and they're right in as much as on the rare occasions people notice them they probably will think they look good, but that's only when they see them.
They don't look so cool laying in the gutter with a SMIDSY standing over them.

This isn't suggesting we all dress like police/polite riders but a bit of common sense has to be predominant in you or else you'll become a statistic.
